Hey all, I took the dash out of my cuda and previous owner had cut a large piece out for a aftermarket radio. My car came with the sports package so it's wood and black underneath instead of silver, and I can not find a new or reproduction sports package dash, just a normal one, does anyone know if this can be fixed and if so where to go, or any where to get a new sports package dash? Thanks.

Mr.G's?
I did get a quote from just dashes and they estimated me about 900 and about 6 months time which is more than I am willing to let my dash go for. I will check with the other places however. Thanks

I got my repop gage bezel from i think P&G or maybe it was Laysons. granted it was for a 67. However 68-69 use the thumbwheel radio and should be the same. As far as the woodgrain goes , you can buy repop woodgrain inserts from DMT and the base model gage bezel, and add the woodgrain. The chroming used on the repops is the same chroming used on automobile grilles so its much more durable than the original vacuum metalizing that was used originally, which is what Mr Gs and others use. The aftermarket bezels dont drop right in. I had to do a little filing and fitting to make it work and fit. I'd recommend converting your ammeter gage to volts, and dewiring and rewiring your charging system output to bypass the bulkhead connector. I also used peel n stick led 5630 strip light around the perimeter my gage housing instead of bulbs for a more even backlighting effect.

Thats a good idea about adding the wood grain, however the wood grain isn't the problem I have, they make some with wood grain and silver, but mine is wood grain and black and I can not find any black inserts and I'd rather not spend 7-800 on a dash bezel just to have to have part of it painted black.

I see what your talking about. I checked P&G classic and saw the 69 non A/C dash with woodgrain and silver paint. You could carefully mask off the new one, remove the barracuda emblem from the glovebox trim and repaint the black using spray cans. I have gotten good results this way. I wonder if the black on yours is OEM black or if somebody along the way saw a 70 A body duster 340 and thought the black looked good and just repainted their 69 cuda dash that way. Maybe do a little detective work and cut off the welded plastic nubs holding the barracuda emblem on the glovebox door on the backside of that piece of trim, and removing that emblem to see if black paint is behind the emblem or silver paint. At this point id go repop only because your original is so far gone it would cost too much to have it redone. And once its redone its still 40 plus year old brittle plastic thats been repaired, and rechromed with old skool vacuum metalizing which doesnt last.

It is factory this way, I did research and couldn't find anything until I came across a single thread about it and this is the black sill molding it talks about in the sports package, which is one reason I found out my car originally came with the sports package.

I believe the sill mouldings being referred to in the sport package are actually the lower body side mouldings below the doors and black paint below those mouldings as on the formula S package. If on the dash, it would have been referred to as a black "applique" on the instrument panel.

I am still curious about the black on the dash, as i have never seen that before on a 67-69 barracuda, standard or formula S

Well that's what I thought at first and that's what a few people in the other thread thought as well until someone found that page then people agreed on it, I can see if I can find the thread again.

I'd still have to go with my first assessment. A sill moulding, is typically a door sill moulding. Either way. Id buy a new one, and mask and paint the black. Your 2 other dead giveaways its a sport package is the 383 engine it was equipped with. This is in the vin, and the R/H muffler bracket mount plate shown in your interior pic. Sport package cars came with dual exhaust.

Original 69 Barracuda formula S 56,000miles Try classic Ind. When you got the wood grain & fancy seats it was called the DELUXE interior. Wood grain was on the dash bezel & door panels. It was an option & you also got the stainless trim on the pedals. 1969 Formula S Barracudas came with deluxe or standerd interiors.

Yea I believe I will buy a new one. Here I found a 69 sport package with it in it ( still looking for original thread on a bodys).

It also could have been a late year 1969 model with blacked out dash trim too. I have seen more unusual stuff from Ma Mopar before. The silver dash pic cawley just showed could have been an early 69, built with a leftover 68 dash bezel.

I actually own a 1988 daytona shelby z with a factory airbag. There is nothing in dodges 1988 factory manuals for repair, or mtx on this, turns out 1266 daytonas at the end of 1988 scooted out the factory with an airbag, then all 1989s except european export had them.

I'd still remove the barracuda emblem and look for spots of silver paint underneath. I bet a prev owner painted it, and if not it could have been a mid year to late year build. Either way silver or black it would look good.

Alright let me go take a look out in the garage and see what I can find.

I was expecting to find silver underneath the letters meaning an previous owner painted it based on what you were saying but I was surprised. Solid black underneath and I took a before pic of the backside so you can tell noone had pulled it and then repaired it before.

Well ill be damned. I bet cawleys pic was an early 69 build. A lot of times on the assembly line they would use up stuff from the prev year just to get rid of it. At least the good thing is a repop dash is available.

Yea I was kinda surprised too after what you were saying. I don't know if there is anyway to tell production date besides fender tags and what not which I don't have, but based on the door handles I have mine was an early year if they are the original handles. The early 69 handles were chrome with a black button, mid to late year used chrome with a chrome button. I could verify that with the front seats either having or not having headrests (early 69's didn't have them mid to late year had them due to increased safety reasons), but my front seats were long gone when I got the car so I am only basing its an early year based off handles which have aging so I know they are not repro.

The inst' bezel is first chromed in a vacuum metalizing process. Afterwards, everything else including paint and/or woodgrain is added. If the china man doesn't offer a 69 bezel to your special application paint scheme, Just not enough call for it.
You could paint over his argent with a trim black. The masking is difficult and time consuming.
I've often wondered why there aren't die cut peel and stick vinyls in lots of sexy looks ( and matte black of course ) to apply here.

Okay. Yea you would think since the lower part of A body dashes don't really change for around 5 years they would make something cool like that.

The black is for the deluxe interior and the silver is for the standard interior.

Look at the woody door panels and seat pattern....
