1969 'cuda 383 4-speed

-
I went to see the car at the end of May. I asked him about the wheels. The car will have dog dish but it is already a lot of blue. I let Mark know they should be body color but I didn't really care either way. The only thing that I see done since March is the radiator is now in the car. He waited to order the upholstery until the last minute. The headliner is installed. I haven't had an update since then. Also, the pods on the dash are incorrect for a 69, he asked me if I wanted to take care of it myself. I told him no. He said it would be done by the end of the year (2021) but like he said in a video, I'm not holding my breath (going on 8 years now).

Best of luck with getting your car finished. I've wondered how Mark would be to deal with in person. It's your car and you know what is correct for a '69 'Cuda ...... and you're paying the bills

Bummer to hear that you’re having to correct him on the restoration and he’s hoping that you’ll fix the mistakes yourself, along with little to no progress. I guess if it’s not a B or E Body it’s not a priority at his shop.

That car is so close to being done, you'd think he'd want to finish it to free up some space. But it's ok to shotgun Tony D'Agostino's wife's car through in record time.

He claims to restore cars which means body-colored wheels with dog dish and black gauge insets. Otherwise it's not "restored". If he orders the upholstery from Legendary, they are backed up waaay into next year.

Blacking out the gauges may add another year.
He likes his tee shirts so a 10th anniversary B5 'cuda 383 one seems in order.

Let's hope he has some pull with legendary int! 8 years is way too long. IVE DONE 3 CARS IN THAT TIME!!

Nice, wonder why they went with black wheels instead of body color?

i imagine the black wheels are just temporary to move the car around. Worman always paints the OEM wheels the same color as the car. however, the owner may want different wheels other than OEM steel wheels.

i love watching GYC's and i am glad that Worman is out there restoring old mopars. however, it is abundantly clear that he DOES NOT want to do A-body mopars. that's fine - but he should just tell A-body guys to take their cars to another shop. now that GYC's has been going strong for some 14 years, they certainly must have developed "efficiency" procedures and practices for B and E body mopars. there is an advantage to just doing B and E body mopars as you can order the same parts over and over again and a lot of the drive train parts are interchangeable. one thing that i can't understand is how GYC's are even still working on these cars. the supply chains for ALL car parts have blown up and getting "specialty" parts for old mopar muscle cars right now is like being a mechanic living in Havana, Cuba. i've been waiting for a Barracuda fastback rear window glass gasket from Year One since early July!! they sent me an email last week saying they "think" the part will be in by the end of this month (September). there is NO WAY Worman is getting all the parts he needs to do the amount of cars he has sitting out in his parking lot. unless you were a "50 something" guy with a lot of money which you want to give to Worman to "restore" the 70 Hemi Cuda you just bought, you just can't live LONG ENOUGH to have GYC's restore your car. if you can do "some" work yourself and are willing to take your car to a couple of different shops for the work, you can get a car restored in less than 2 years.

I agree with Jim about the similarities between the B and E body Mopars. A bodies are a whole different critter. I know a few very knowledgeable Mopar people people who just don't understand the differences with A bodies. I'm the first to admit that I have learned a lot about A bodies by simply growing up with them and working on them personally, but I have never owned a B or E body. I would need to start the learning process all over again with these body styles.

Nope! Before he painted them he asked me what color they were supposed to be. I told him body color on the face but so much time had passed he forgot and he painted them black. My guess is that he is not sure of himself when it comes to A-Bodies and he had an A-12 moment. At this point I just want the car back. I can deal with the black rims.

No kidding!

In case you didn't see it, as far as A-Bodies are concerned, this is probably the best segment of the show, ever! I ran across this the other night. It covers the process of installing the front clip. It flips back and forth with the '68 charger but it is mostly the 'cuda from 20:50 to 29:50. Skip the ad and go to 20:50 if you wish. I will try to contact Mark at the end of this month and give ya'll an update if I get one. Thanks!

What a crock of silly bs. It doesn't matter what Worm man likes, favors or is comfortable with. You take a mans car and money, shake hands and 8 years later he can't even get the wheel paint correct much less still has the car? That show had so much going for them but excuses, acting the fool and showing your a$$ every show and having the painter acting like a celebrity is a drag. How hard is it to research and correctly restore any car if that's your claim to fame? I love the cars so thankfully my mute button is close at hand.

So he thought wheels were supposed to be black and it is some type of major ordeal to fix that mistake? And he waits until last minute to order the interior knowing that is a long lead time item? All the hard dirty work is done I would pay the bill and go get that car and finish it yourself. Complete BS it has been there 8 years and not done but other "priority" cars were expedited right though.

Paying him and then finishing it myself is not something I am willing to consider.

Keep us posted. I remember your car and the front clip mounting segment. I really hope they get it done for you soon. Sorry it is taking so long.

i'm sorry you went through such an ordeal with your car. having it on GYC's seemed like a cool thing "8 years ago" - but it has turned into a nightmare for you. i imagine you are paying Worman a fair amount for this build but you probably could have found several shops that would have done this car for the same or even less money and finished the car in a year. American Metal Direct removed a drag race designed floor and put an entire OEM floor pan in my 69 M-Code cuda from a donor car in less than a year. but with them, i'm doing all the final body work and paint. just for comparison, i completely restored one of my 68 Barracuda's myself in 2600 hours just working on it in my house garage. that was about a year and a half. i watch GYC's every episode and love the cars he does. however, it appears that the high-value cars and "cars of stars" keep getting put ahead of the "regular" cars. i hope things work out soon for you.

Sorry to hear GYC is taking so long to do the car. Unfortunately, GYC is a show and not just a restoration shop. I'm betting Worman is up to his *** in production schedules, dealing with non-car related personnel, and trying to keep the network happy with content that attracts the most viewers. Enter the Hemi Cuda's , Daytona Chargers, Superbirds and other one -offs that car fans migrate to. A-Bodies don't fit that list unless its "Hemi under Glass" or something a body related in that category.
I'm betting that his work was much better when he didn't have a show and was just concentrating on the restoration of the cars.
Some of the guys he lost were extremely good and probably didn't like being front and center and being the butt of Worman's stupid antics.
The only good thing is that because he is using up so many parts, its an incentive for the aftermarket to keep producing them. A lot of the fasteners, clips, exhaust products, electrical, etc is shared across the Mopar lines.
BTW , the Cuda is awesome ! B-5 Blue.. Oh yeah!!

I spotted this beauty while watching YouTube videos.

It looks like the '69 383 4 spd will be featured in some upcoming episodes. So it looks like they are working on it.

Yeah, it was on last night. It showed them putting the stripes on the hood and the grills in. I talked to Mark and he said it should be done soon.

I watched it. They did a great overview of all the metal work that was done to the car. Car looks super awesome on the show. I noticed wheels painted body color. Mark definitely showed a lot of respect for how special of a car it is. Hopefully they have an episode where you get the car back done!
