1970 Duster project in Sweden

Thanks again guys. This place is the best. I got myself an early Christmas present. Since my 360 will (hopefully) have a decent amount of more power than my 273 I ordered a front disc conversion kit from Wilwood. For years I have been on the lookout for 15" wheels with the small bolt pattern, but they never show up over here, so I ordered a set of U.S. Indy Mags too. I just love the look of those. When I was a kid all the cool cars had Mags over here,I remember I used to draw them in class :)

Smart moves , on both purchases. 360 power , and stock four wheel drum brakes don't mix well.
The U.S. Indy mags , are one of my favorite wheels . They were not available for 25 years ,at a minimum.

The wife is running 4 wheel drums and she has learned right quick to leave some distance between cars and the art of early braking for traffic lights.

Threshold braking is an art ,Rob. No abs ,makes for a an more capable driver , in the long term .

It looks like my Duster won't be out this summer. I have not had the time to build the engine and all the other projects I had going. This sucks and I have felt really stressed about it. But I don't want to do anything in a hurry and not make it as good as I possibly can. So I don't think it is possible for me to get it running this year. All my free time has been spent on home projects, renovating my summer house etc. I thought I could do both... I guess sometimes you just have to step back and realize there's just not enough time at hand. I'm sure I'm not the first, nor the last having this experience :)

I never have enough time to do all the things that I enjoy. I guess that I will never have to worry about boredom settling in.

Its impossible to get everything done at the same time and no point in stressing yourself to far over it:)

Progress is slow. But I got a set of new tires to go with my new wheels. Cooper Cobras. 275/60-15 & 215/65-15. Looking forward when I get to drive it again with the 360, front disc brakes and all new tires :)

Cooper Cobras are great tires and a great price. I have 275 60s on the rear of my 94 chevy pickup, and 225 60s on the front. They ride nice, and have nice big water channels and sipes to push away rhe water. We get massive springtime storms out here, and my town the drainage system is the street lol. I think you will like them. They are nice and grippy.

I'm glad I clicked on this link again-always enjoy reading how people's rides progress. It's gonna look sharp with those wheels and stop so much better with good brakes.

Cooper cobras are dead sexy. Es muy bueno!!! Grippy, and good in the rain, plus the raised white letters on em makes my truck really "pop"!! I thinkn your going to really like them. My Cuda will be getting a set of those too !! Probably going black wall on that one though. Keep it low key.

Hi all! It has been ages since I had time to work on my car. I have been doing 2 jobs and will be doing it for a while more. So I just have not had the energy or the time. I hope I can start working on it again sometime early next year. I missed having it out on the roads this summer a lot. Thanks for all the positive feedback in this thread. I'll be back (Arnold style voice).

But you have something to look forward too instead?

Here I am, almost a year after my last post. I never expected to be in a situation like this. I work so much at my job I still have not had the time, or the energy to proceed with all the updates I'm working on with my Duster. I always expected that I would have the energy to work 2 jobs and do my hobbies as well. Well, I'm guessing age is catching up with me. I actually have a bad conscience about it. I so badly want to feel motivated to start working on it. But when I have a free Saturday or Sunday I also just want to catch up on some relaxation. How do you guys and gals deal with this? I dont want to complain, but It's been so long since I worked on it the project seems so large to pick up again. I know though, if I get that initial spark I will probably be all over it again working away :)

Sometimes you need a break to do other things you want in your life. I work only 1 job, but as an aircraft mtx crewchief, my day is never the scheduled 8 hours it's supposed to be. It regularly runs to 10, or 11 hours because of issues that happen that day or week, and sometimes runs over to having to work saturday or sunday for whatever reason. Ya sure the money's great, but I'm at a loss for time, and i run out of G.A.S. (Give A ****) for anything else.

Hot summers here like over 100°F for sometimes 2 months at a time and having to work out in the heat makes me want to come home at night and not leave the house. Just enjoy the A/C. I keep motivated by staying on Fabo, and ordering needed parts for the projects. Hey the money's great but no time, might as well order parts I need. I plan on retiring in 11 years at 62.

I got my eye on the long term prize. So I rat pack the money coming in so I can walk away from airplanes at age 62 and enjoy the rest of my life tinkering on my old junk until I croak. If I could do that at age 60 I would. Point is theres nothing wrong with shelving one interest to pursue other enjoyment for awhile, or even to take a rest from it all.

I used to burn the candle at both ends when i was in my 20s. Would leave work go to my shop which at that time since I lived in an apartment was a rented T hangar on the airport. Put a TV dinner in the microwave I kept there, grab a beer out of the mini fridge I also kept there, then get to work on a project. Go home at 1 or 2AM, shower, go to bed, and get back up at 6am to go back to work.

My 7 year old son now keeps me motivated. I have a 69 barracuda for us to put together as a father and son project. Just sandblasted and primered some steelies for it. Will be hanging an explorer 8.8 under it. He comes out there with me, and wants to learn all about this stuff. Plus temps will be dropping to about 85°F soon making it much more bearable to work in my shop. Maybe getting on Fabo and looking at other projects will get you motivated, or fixing just that 1 thing you wanted to.

My latest is "bodywork". I mean body improvement on my own body. Came back from a trip to New Jersey with my son to visit family about 2 months ago. Saw pix of me at the beach and went holy **** I am pushing maximum density. Got on the scale and weighed 245 lbs. Been doing keto, and exercising. Am down to 222 lbs. Made a pact with myself that I will buy new boots when I hit 200 lbs. My Doc says I should be at 190 lbs. Losing the weight is giving me more energy it seems, plus it makes being in the heat more bearable.

Hope something in this post helps you.
Matt

I find motivtion is accomplishing the small jobs, no matter how small it would appear to a non car resto kind of guy! Makes me feel GOOD! That satisfaction compels me to start on the bigger jobs!
I am retired but like Matt just said, Tx heat can be hard and I am 71, not a kid anymore.
