Good to hear these cars are still around and coming out of the woodwork to be brought back to life. It's a hard to find survivor so it should be treated as such and not modified further.

As for what route to go with the car,if it were mine I'd return it close to stock as far as drivetrain (72 340,original type trans,8 3/4 rear),body, paint, and interior but since it has frame connectors and is minitubbed,I'd leave it like that and have some big cragar SS's on the back.Sort of a day 2 style hot rod, maybe add some M/T valve covers, aftermarket air cleaner, headers, aftermarket tach, that kind of thing.

Be sure to keep us updated, look forward to hearing how it progresses

I have one. It has been sitting for about 18 years. vin LL23HR2676XX (last 2 left off).
Now the bad news. I bought it when I was 16...

Garth! Whoa! This is awesome - a brand new one - been awhile since a fresh one popped up.
We were all sixteen and could live forever (along with these cars we drove back then). With the VIN # you posted, you have a legit '71 Swinger 340 Special from the first batch of the Crestview Regina run. Without the last 2 digits I don't know where it sits in the May 13 build day but it is the real deal. Oh, you did miss a digit in the VIN, would be #LL23H1R2676XX. Now, with it being EV2 (hemi orange), it is the second of the 13 known Crestview 'survivor' cars to exist (there were 25 along with 40 Crosstown cars), so it is crazy rare. Your car may have only come with 2 torque boxes (maybe none) because it was an automatic car, thus the stretch marks but all that can be reversed and is a whole lot cheaper than just about any of the other cars around that are rust riddled – at least you have real metal to work with and weld to etc. Anyway, stay in touch – I have a ton more questions... Cliff

there is a red one in vernon, its been there for quite a while as well as a b5 blue one in kamloops.(going to try and buy that one eventually) there used to be a yellow one in armstrong that went to red deer a few years back.

chrisf, what's up? Any updates on the where about's of the B5 blue one out Kamloops way? Nothing new has cropped up in awhile... Cliff

............I know where there was a 71 auto trans car........not sure if its still around....PC, black interior, i think it had buckets and consol.........i thought the guy was bs'ing me, cause i thought that the demon took over the 340.......it had the H for the 340, already alittle rough back then[mid 80s]....I'll do some checking in the spring.......i dont want it, but will help some1 as long as it will b restored, and not someday b restored......kim............

the b5 blue one i did visit. its a "71 340 car" in fact is a 318 1970 with a 360 in it. owner is beyond delisional at 12g for it. i was honestly thinking 1200 as it has a few nice pcs. pretty rough car though.
i do know of a real 71 H code locally as well i have to talk to him soon, i will ask him what he is doing with it. it started getting turned into a race car but never finished.

Well I talked to this guy a few months back, he bought this car out of the same small town I sold it to, and he confirmed the "73 340 I put in, along with a few of the other oddities of my car...orig. EV2 car, painted white, etc. Problem is, he wants 20k for it and it needs a total resto...too bad! I would have loved to get it back. It's now in the Calgary area...unless he sold it

Ahhhh, so that was yours, eh? We e-mailed a couple times and sounds like a good guy that just never had the time to do anything with it. It's still in Regina (the map on the site you got these pics from was showing the head office of the site in Calgary), unless, like you say, it sold. He was supposed to let me know if it sold and a contact so I could keep a track on it. Haven't heard, so I don't think the 20K made it move.

I looked back at some of your original postings and you had mentioned 'painted white', so I immediately thought of Ritter's old one that ended up in Manitoba, but you were referring to your original EV2 getting a 'white' paint job. Well, nice you know where it is at least and we'll keep our eyes on it, but was nice to see it still exists, eh.

Hey I emailed this guy too. He said he wants to know more about the cars. I asked him if he would take some pics of the car for me and he said sure. I guess this adds some strength that the cars have black headliners.

Hey cliff what happened to your web site?

Garth

My car is a Canadian built car, no Swinger 340 Special though...VIN# starts with LL23B1R. Originally a /6 with 3 speed on column. I know the guy who tried to clone it into a 340 Swinger, installed a very nice built 340 but didn't go a very good job of finishing the project. Now I'm just trying to finish getting it the way I want it to be. Would love to find one of those originals....would be an awesome purchase.

Hi Garth, I always sent people with questions to the 'now defunct' 340swinger.org site, but it obviously didn't get the traffic to warrant it being kept open (right Adam?). I guess I'm going to have to get on one specifically for the Canadian 340 Specials, eh? But in the mean time, here's a quick fact sheet I posted on my Hub Garage space - http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage
I'm heading over the pond for a nice break, so keep posting and I'll check it all out when I get back in a month or so... Cliff

I owned a true 71 340 Swinger that was Light Gunmetal metallic in the early 80s, drove it all thru highschool and college, sold it and then bought it back, drove it right till 1995 and sold it to some guy in Calgary for $3500, it was all original and numbers matching. Have pictures and the buildsheet, would love to get it back, also owned a top banana yellow one in the early 90's brought it back from Vernon, started restoring it but was a basket case. Anyone know of the 71 light gunmetal metallic car, let me know, we have a lot of great memories. It had highline white interior and was a auto car. Was 2nd owner and bought it out of Weyburn, Sask.

Yeah, wouldn't it be great to get that one back - especially that one, got to be pretty much a one-of-one with that colour and only 25 of the 340 Specials out of Saskatchewan.
Here's what I know and hopefully someone can add to this story... I know the guy who bought it off you from Calgary. He had it for a while and then he was trying to sell it and had it out at Flatla's over in Tilley, AB (Mopar guy). He wanted him to try and sell it but no movement so he brought it back to Calgary in '96 and he then sold it to a young guy in the neighbourhood of McKenzie here in Calgary. I found this out last summer so a lot of time has passed since he sold it but hopefully it's still in a garage somewhere in McKenzie. Here's a pic of it that I think you originally had. So let's cross our fingers and hope it pops up. Later, Cliff

yup thats my girl, let me know if she pops up. I have some more pictures somewhere, motor is matching numbers but the tranny was a warranty change out in 73.

I'll keep my nose to the ground. That was one sweet version of the Canadian 340 Specials. Not sure if you know, but your old EV2 that went state side is up for sale, along with the 2nd Pembina '72 that so far only exists - it's a Y1 3 speed car.

My 72 is swinger special with a Canadian maple leaf still inside the drivers door. But it was a /6 car.

we just got a 72 340 3 speed. 3rd owners of the car and its a crosstown one as well. sadly the first owner hated the original yellow and painted it black and did a horrific job. lots of the original yellow is showing as the car was painted only a few months after he had bought it. the interior has been re done as well but was parked in storage for years by the first owner later selling to his friend that he raced will regularly, also keeping it in storage but later selling it to me and my dad. its currently got the 4 speed in it but did originally had the 3 speed that's with it aswell.

Whoa!
You are the owner of the 9th Swinger 340 Special know to exist! And sounds like this one stayed pretty darn close to the Drayton Valley are since it was bought back in '72 from Crosstown - how illusive is that? There are a number of '71's and '72's from your area and know one knew of this one, until it came up on-line for sale. Sweet. We'll be talking... C

Hey Kev, it's the 9th Crosstown car, the 11th '72 overall with the 2 Pembina versions. So, pretty interesting, eh?

This car is a clone. He has been trying to sell it on Craigslist for a while now. He bought it a few months ago off of Craigslist in Oregon for 6,500. At first his posts said "clone", now he appears to be billing it as the real deal. I don't know about the appraisal, but dart4forte is correct in what he said about the price for a '71 340 transplant.

I saw that same car at the Salem show several years ago. If memory serves me right the floors on that car have issues. I personally don't know this guy but when I first talked with him he gave me the impression that it was a legit car then he started talking "Tribute Car" which to me is another way of saying clone.

i have talked to that guy, he is a real peice of work!!! thinks because he swapped a 340 into his beater its now a 340 car. pretty rude when you call him on it too.

being in western Canada i have seen a bunch of 71 340 darts over the years, i know where are a couple are. seeing this post reminded me to go check on one. not sure f its for sale or not but have to ask will check in the next few weeks.

From what you all have said, this kind of behavior is extremely manipulative. It is like he is trying to change reality with his words and He gets upset when you mention that his information is incorrect. Why is no one calling him out on this?????

Yea Galen Govier is a really flaky dude. He pissed off many of people and really tainted his name in the car world. Sounds like Cliff Guinand is the guy you would want to talk to about that car. Besides if you don't have a 6 figure hemi A, B, or E body Galen won't give you the time of day.
