1972 Dodge Colt

-
Stan is bringing the Colt to the Mini Nationals this Saturday in Rockwall, TX. I really want to see the fab work he has done so far. His HyperPak wagon was a really nice show piece, I saw it at the show last year.

Got the Colt over to the Dallas Mopar Show. Took Second Place in the Race Car Class! In spite of everything that is not where finished it was a popular car. Lots of great comments and lots of slant fans! Met some great FABO folks, Demonracer,383Duster, and I am sure some I didn't know. Some things I need to fix on the hood, I could see the center flapping on the trailer at 70 miles an hour! Thanks Bill and friends for helping unload and load the Colt at the show!

This weeks progress.
I needed to put the crank back in, to mount the flywheel, to fit the starter.
So I had to take a lot apart to put it back together.
The starter needs a .250 spacer to move back from the flywheel and a fixture to hold the bottom starter bolt. It looks like the V8 starter location will work and I won't have to cut a hole in the block plate. All this works because I have a starter that doesn't need a nose support.
I needed a TIG welder to do my frame mid plate mounts.
So I sold my MIG welder and bought a Primeweld TIG machine.
That came today, so I need to get up to speed on that.
Also got my valve cover back after getting it cleaned.
It's going to need polishing, but it is clean now.
Also found a Marine aluminum pan. Cast aluminum, 10 quart with baffles.View attachment 1715570762 View attachment 1715570766 View attachment 1715570767 View attachment 1715570768 View attachment 1715570769
I’m an Aerospace Tig welder, and recently got to use that Tig machine. I was very impressed and may be picking one up to replace my big Miller machine. Enjoy

Hey folks, still here, just took a break to work on my Motorcycle restoration.
I will be back at in a couple of weeks.

Yes I know all the Big D Folks, Keith, Grady, Ryan, and I have been in the NTNOA since I moved to Texas in '11. I have had this Norton since 1975. Rode it back and forth to College.

Thank you BVoelzke!
I need to get back on it soon.
Going to pull the rear and replace the rod end bearings and install the disk brakes.

Finished working on my Norton for this year.
1973 Norton Commando 850.
New paint, rebuilt transmission, new wiring, exhaust system.

Working on the Colt again.
I found a Hurst QuarterStick instruction sheet in the drivers side quarter panel.
Dated 1990, man I wish that thing could talk!

Does the instruction sheet list Torqueflites or Turbo 350/400 & Powerglides only?
I like the balance tube between the two cylinders. Guessing that gives it more mid-range torque as opposed to
individual pipes per cylinder for top end.
The window in the back ground makes me think it's the living room...I do see the door opener.

There is very very little difference using a crossover pipe in the exhaust of a motorcycle.
This is mainly helpful in cutting down the decibels, not for torque

The instructions are for the QuarterStick Cover, not the shifter. Didn't make that clear.

And the balance pipe was to drop the DB, same reason they changed the transmission chain gear, to lower the RPM and get it through the inspections for noise.
Just what the brits needed as they struggled to survive against the Japanese.

Thanks for your message.
It was pretty crude, this way if something starts to happen, maybe I will see it before it's a BIG problem.
I was looking at Bogart Wheels last night. Maybe I should start a poll, Super Tricks, Brushed Centerlines, or Flys?
Super Tricks, they were on the car.
Centerlines, like a trick, cheaper.
Flys, just a Bad *** Wheel!

Motor Fly's are real light if you get the magnesium wheels . had a set on my 68 Cuda . Would polish them on Friday to go to the track and by Sunday they turned back black . The guy I got them from gave the me the lug nuts for them but he did said hold out your hand , he put a steel mag lug nut in one hand and 5 for the Fly wheels and the steel one was heavier than the 5 for the Fly wheels . They were titanium and were real light . The wheels came off of Roy Hills race car . The Fly wheel could be held up with one finger in the center hole and be spun around with little effort . This was many years ago and I paid $150.00 for 2 wheels and the lug nuts . Just fyi . Great project John

Thanks funnykarman, there is a set of Flys on ebay right now, a little out of my range!

I have a friend who says he has a set of spindle mount Cragars, looking to close the deal soon.
Roy had a Colt, the ex Crider Colt, 340 car.

Yep they are a lot more expensive now . The ones I got were off his Plymouth Duster that Richard Petty sponsored . I bought them from Billy West , he was good friends with both Richard and Roy .

Looking forward to see your Colt running with the slant 6 , had a 65 cuda with a 225 in it and could keep up with a few 8v cars. While racing at Piedmont drag way a guy had a Anglia with a slant six in it with a 4 speed . turn it about 7000 rpm and pull the wheels in the first 2 gears . Growing up in NC I was able to see S&M run . Loved the Hemi Colts . Saw one sitting behind a house and bought it , ended up with 3 Colts . Started to build a drag car but the Pro Street bug bit me and I went another way . Took a while to figure out how to get a blown 440 in it and used hand me down parts . drove it for a few years and sold it to a friend , It ended up in Crawford Auto Museum in Ohio . 0 to 100 in 7 seconds in 2nd gear . It was a fun ride .
