1972 Dodge Colt

Shifter linkage done enough to make a pass or two.
I would like to buy some 1/2 or 9/16 steel tubing and re-enforce the rods like Hurst did.
But if push come to shove, it will have to wait.
I just made a new set of rods and saved the stock Ram Rod stuff.
Some cutting, heating, bending, threading, fitting......

Ended up using a steel, ball and detent.
I don't see a way to use one of the aluminum OD covers.
And I don't have an unobtainium DC covers.

I thought Passon had aluminum ones new, maybe he did but not now.
Stock spring or weaker spring? Someone had those also but can't remember who.
Either I forget who or I buy the parts and forget I have them....need to do inventory.

Took a few days away doing family stuff.
Back to work today.
Installed the passenger side ball joint.
Welded the clutch, brake pivot tube together.
Started to work on the motorplate for the front of the motor.
Going to have to figure out how to cut the aluminum.
I thought my Sears bandsaw would work but I can't change speeds without finding pulleys.

Jigsaw with bi metal blade works pretty good. Just don't be in a big hurry!

I have a "drill press/router" that has a dimmer switch controlling it. It needs "full throttle" to start but can be dialed down once going. You are probably right...but where was someone going to show how to convert a wood cutting bandsaw into a metal cutting version?

Good point.
It's a piece of crap for wood anyway, always having to adjust and tweak to cut thin wood.

Bought a Makita jig Saw and started on the engine plate.

Then I CC-ed my head. 53 CC's so with my decked block I get 10.1 to 1 CR.

Got most of the front plate done.
I moved over to my cast iron block to finish it.
Casting is quite different on the water pump boss.
I also mocked up my plan B if the Webers hold me up.

Mounted rear slicks.
Started on the engine, Racer Brown needs to see what is on the back of the Cam.

Dropped the pan and timing cover.
Checked the rod bearings and main bearings.
Everything looks real good.
Going to re-degree the cam and button it back up!
After I find a reliable torque wrench.

Stamped on the back of the cam is the CL.
Here is the rear of the cam, 108 is the CL.
I am going to ask him tomorrow about the other info.

Worked on trimming my steel floor board around the 2 master cylinders.
Tomorrow I start welding it in to the existing floor.

Yea the issue I see is the height above the floor.
I have never liked the location and what was I going to do above it.
So today I went and ordered the Wilwood compact cylinder.
According to the spec sheet I will save 1.5 in the installed height.
It has a flat lid so it should not be much higher than the clutch cylinder.
So another step backward, but I think this is a better solution.
Can't make an omelet without cracking some eggs.

Had to take a day off to celebrate my wife's birthday.
Back at it today.
Did some sheet metal work on the tunnel.
Did some countersunk rivets on the Lenco cut-out.
Also a couple of areas that had been cut and covered with loose metal.
Cut and trimmed around the shifter.
Installed the driveshaft to measure the cut.
Looks like 2.5 inches will make it work, so next week that goes to Ft Worth.
Also got 2 90 deg exhaust extensions to route the exhaust out the side.
Thanks SlantRacer, that is a good idea.

Finished my shifter re-locate mount.
Some of my best tig welding that I have been able to do.
Clean thick metal helps a ton!

Got the Wilwood master cylinder mounted.
It fits the floor much better.
Need to cut another floor panel.

Pulled the pin on an enclosed car hauler.
They have gone up around a thousand dollars since April.
I should have ordered it then.
Should be ready late July, so road trip to GA to bring it home.
