Really, I'm blessed with an understanding wife. AND she likes to mow. She takes care of the yard and I ignore the rest that I'm supposed to be doing. Haha

Yesterday it rained all day here I'm glad I got my yard work done the day before. I'm gonna be delayed some on my engine work I think now that the weather is warming back up I'm gonna turn my attention back to the engine bay and start sanding and spreading some paint!

That's not fun but every little bit helps. More fun than yard work. Yuck.
 
Now that the engine and transmission are in and the shifter linkage is all hooked up, bodywork is close enough, we finally made it to the point where my skills get to shine. Wiring.
The car came with the original 74 wiring harness but I don't think I'm going to use all of it. Little butchered up and I want to do away with the extra seat belt interlock crap. It came with extras, a really nice 73 harness and and equally nice 72 non ECU version. It will be a mix of the 3 for the engine, dash and rear body. Probably going to use a little bit of everything.
I think I'm going to do it kinda like we do at work, lay them on a 4 by 8 pieces of plywood so I can check every wire and connector.
Of course while I'm doing this I will restore the dash, along with the instrument cluster, radio and heater bezel, and the glove box door. Dash pad has a cover and is good enough. Will continue through with the heater box also.

I've learned a lot and appreciate the help I've received here. More fun to come!

Fortunately, wiring for these is pretty easy. The biggest problems are brittle connectors and hardened or cooked insulation, which is part of the reason I'm not a fan of ammeters, generally speaking...I'd rather keep the major current paths out of the cabin.

Agreed. Luckily in 74 they already had the power wires that bypass the bulkhead connector and run through a separate grommet through the firewall. The wires, bulkhead connector and ammeter all look to be in good condition. Even still I don't think I'm going to fool with trying to use it. I will be using a voltmeter.
 
Got the hood on. Took about 6 tries as usual. But it's pretty straight.

I played around with some rustoleum on mine I'm gonna spray the whole car with it until I can do the real paint job

Long time ago I had some corrosion control engineer training in my travels. From what I remember paint serves two purposes:
1. To protect the material from corrosion
2. Beautification
Guess which one is more important to me right now? Haha.

For the time being anything you put on it will serve that purpose.

While sorting through the wiring harnesses and getting a game plan together, my head started hurting so I decided I needed a distraction. So I drilled the holes and test fit the seats.

Figuring out the wiring harnesses will be a challenge but I'm actually looking forward to restoring the dash. Lot of surface rust to contend with. But overall in pretty decent shape. And the dash cap is actually in good shape. Should be a fun project. Here's the before pictures.

McMaster-Carr sells the original style tape reasonable.
It is some sort of friction/asphalt tape, I forget the exact name of it.
Thanks! I'll have to order some. I did find the good non adhesive vinyl tape to use in the non wear areas.

I don't remember the brand but it was standard issue Lowe's garage door insulation. Spray can of general purpose adhesive, good sharp razor knife and off you go!
