I get what you guys are saying. I could be like everyone else and do a V8 swap, but if Im swapping out the motor to a different style I might as well get a newer engine was purpose built to be efi (probably a 4 or 6 cyl), using a modern 4 or even 5spd transmission. (I've been wondering about a wrx chassis... AWD and everything- anybody seen that yet) Of course that would require almost an entire frame fabricated for the car.

I do understand suspension, while I was impressed with the brakes. I am definitely not satisfied one bit. The first thing I do to the car when I get back is disc brake conversion, and some kind of booster (probably hydro-boost, like the astro van).

Maintenance on the suspension will also be a must, but again I am not building a purpose built track car, main priority is a DD. Therefore stock suspension will be enough. I might get a little stiffer suspension though, but I am sure it would handle better than my 2wd F-100 that I used to race around when I was 18.

TO AJ.
You are correct. I'm trying to point out, that installing a V-8 has it's own challenges, and expenses. I would estimate the expense to be about equal. It is not as inexpensive, or easy as most seem to think, but it is a viable option.

An overdrive auto in an "A" body is not an easy swap. Lots of mods required. At this point, it seems like a GM 200-R4, is the best trans to use, but it is not a cheap conversion.

hey you asked about putting a auto od behind your /6 , well in the 60's dodge put /6's and loadflte auto's together . using an adapter and crank spacer , loadflite has the la smb v8 bellhousing pattern and this adapter bolts to the /6 and lets you bolt a la smb v8 auto trans to it . so the newer o/d trans thats behind an la 318 , 360 , 5.2 , 5.9 will bolt right on that adapter . just must add @ inch to you trans mounting from the stock location . and your starter just bolts to the trans in a v8 placement .

But, research has proven that slant sixes with turbochargers run the best quarter-mile times with final drive gear ratios in the 2.76 range, so, there would be no need for an overdrive if you just geared the rear end like that. That "one size fits all" gearing would work for all kinds of driving.

End of problem.

You are correct, but just try to find that adapter. Few and far between. Then you need to cut the floors, and heavily modify the trans cross member (don't forget that is also the torsion bar anchor). Plus the converter, and OD unit in the A500 trans is not very good, compared to many other OD automatics.
