Hey everyone, I'm swapping the radiator out of my 66 Valiant w/273 and power steering. The radiator I have is a passenger side inlet (bottom) and driver's side outlet (top). I ordered it that way.
The problem, my waterpump is a driver's side inlet. I had planned on swapping it out with a pass side unit, however the pump has an extension for the power steering bracket. I need help finding a part number or another car that has a similar pump but with the pass inlet. Need to know so I don't spend all day in the parts store cross referencing stuff.
I do have a manual steering box I want to put on but it's on a 64 Dart parts car right now so I have to use the power steering pump.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Changing to that water pump starts a whole chain of events in your car. You will need the newer style alternator brackets, pulleys and power steering pump and bracket if you keep the power steering. What dictated buying the new radiator with the incorrect inlet/outlet for your car?

I agree with Commando.... changing to the newer style water pump will necessitate changing a number of other things and should be considered in your decision to do the swap. You will need the later style alternator brackets, the correct power steering pump brackets for your style of pump, at least the water pump pulley and maybe the lower crank pulley also. Don't be surprised if you need to run a double pulley alternator also, as the single pulley is for the earlier cars with your old setup. These are all possibilities, but not necessaryily probable, and this will become more apparent as you mock up the new water pump. Good luck with your project, Geof

Thanks guys. Well, went to upullandpay today. Got a set of pullies and alternator brackets from a 318 out of a 78 Dodge pickup. The crank pulley had already been modified by the p/o so it bolts onto my 273. I just had to re-form the lower bracket and place 1/8" shims behind them both where they mount to the waterpump and everything lines up spot on. The power steering however; i'm going to make a bracket at work that will prob run from the first intake bolt down to the bottom outer bolt on the water pump. Already have an idea on how to make it work. The only real problem is not being able to utilize the timing tab, as the w/p inlet now sits in it's place....no biggie though, don't plan on doing any mods to that motor anytime soon....have a 318 that will go in soon enough.
Again, thanks for the heads up.

the timing cover is different also,,,the newer cover has the timing marks embossed on the cover on the drivers side, go get the one off the 318 in the junk yard,, and dont throw out your orignal,,,some guys are looking for those early covers,,,,up to 1969 and then 1970 and newer,,

Got the swap all done last weekend. Put an electric fan on it on Tuesday. Stays on the low side of the factory temp guage with a 180 thermostat. Pulled the pullies and alt brackets from a 78 dodge pick up, someone had already modified one of the crank pulley bolts so it bolted right on to the 273. All I really had to do was rebend the lower alt bracket the opposite way and put 1/8 shims(washers) between the brackets and waterpump and it lined right up. No space for a fan though....again, went electric pusher....that was a pain in it's self having to put it between the radiator and grille.
Anyways, everthing works great and drive it everyday to work...so far so good.
Only thing I have to do is make a bracket to run the power steering. Or go ahead and put the manual box on.

you have plenty of room for a mech fan, i run a 3 inch blower belt same engine bay,,,i use a aftermarket fan from summit/jegs i believe its made by permacool,,,,was like 29 bucks,,,,the install instructions say fan blade 7/8 inch from the radiator,,,works super good doesnt flex,,,500 HP,, i have an electric fan in front of the rad,,,but i hardly ever use it,,,unless sitting in a super long line trying to get in an event,,, or if the out side temps are abouve 95 degrees,,

Wow that looks way close.

it is 7/8 of an ince as the specs on the fan ask for,,, it is NOT a flex fan,,, has been there for 12 years,, the rad i had recored to a 4 row and pushed the brackets forward so the rad moved toward the grille about 1/2 inch or so,,, i dont like to rely on electric stuff , when mechanical is available
