273?

-
A 8 3/4 rear with a 3:23 would be common. Just depends how it was ordered. Most GT's came with the good rear and the standard 3:23. A 270 model with an optional 273 may have a 7 1/4. The option books are a bit sketchy. They list the
7 1/4 until 1974 but don't list them past 1966 in the option charts. I'm sure there's an expert here that can help you. tmm

Mine is a 270 model that has a 273 2 bbl. I debating if I'm going to rebuild my 273 to make it a 4 bbl. or put in a 340. I have a 8 3/4 I want to swap to. Mine other question is will the whole brake setup from my 7 1/4 bolt onto the 8 3/4 housing? The 8 3/4 housing I have has axles with SMP and backing plates.

Brakes do not interchange from 7/14 and anything else. So for the swap you need the backing plates, new U bolts, and the shock plates because of the larger diameter U bolts.

If your 7 1/4 has 10 inch brakes then the shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware, and drums will go onto the 8 3/4 10 backing plates. You will need the 8 3/4 parking brake struts. Trust me I did this swap on my 66.

Going thru my old posts and I'm to the point where I'm going to swap from my 7 1/4 to my new 8 3/4 this weekend. I see that it is mentioned that I will need the 8 3/4 braking struts. Where would I find these if I do need them? Thanks

1967 A-Bodies

The 8 3/4" Rear came through with the '3.23 Gear Ratio' as 'standard equipment'.

Options see below,

3.55 and 3.91 were optional on 67 B-cuda can not imagine dart was different. But 3.23 was only option with 383

Correct Rocky J.........My error -

I meant to say the '3.23' was the 'only' Gear Ratio available for the 383 Engine.

Thank you for your help. I thought that it would be one of those hard to find parts.

The Parking Brake Struts are hard to find. they are not sold (to my knowledge) by parts houses, you will need to find a pair from an 8-3/4 differential (these are the ones with the length-wise 90° angle bend). I had a hard time finding them for mine.

Cool, I have seen that just never pulled the trigger on it. Might have to do that nothing better than handy trinket information! Thanks!

Rocky JS,

That is from the 1967 Plymouth Barracuda 'sales brochure specifications'.

Even has the Camshaft Specifications with 'valve spring pressure'.

O.K. Thats what I was thinking. After reading the post from chryslerfat. So with that being said I did go on ebay and see there are a few for sale. Now I see there are 2 different sizes(not sure if either is what I need). One is for a 11 x 2 1/2 and the other is a for 10 x 2 1/2. All three look different so how do I know the correct parts I would need? Thanks
