Hi,

I plan on doing a swap on a plymouth from a 318 to a 360. Was thinking of going BB, but have decided it is too large a task.

The car currently is power steering with a/c. Will there be any implications in just a straight swap over that I need to be weary of. Any reasons why I can't put the a/c back on? I think i'll go the crate engine route from Maund motoworks on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Smal...007QQitemZ170072244608QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V). anyone use one of these?

Any help appreciated

Regards,
Rick

That swap is pretty much straight forward, You shouldn't have a problem other than the left motor mount bracket is different, 340-360 use the same 273-318 use the same, That sure seems like a great price on the motor. How about you being the lab rat on this one and lets us know later how satisfied you were with them? Thanks

That crate motor looks like a 360 LA.
The 318 engine bracket can be used with a spacer on the back side of the mount. Some people use nuts or washers. I think it's about a 1/4 inch difference.
The torque converter is weighted on the 360. They are externally balanced.

Or you can buy the flexplate for the external balance and keep the same convertor.

As gremlin says make sure to get the torque converter for a 360 - either that or you could get am SFI flex plate for less that is balanced for a 360 and use your existing converter.

As far as the accessories go - everything you have on the 318 will bolt on to the 360, pulleys, AC, pwr steering pump etc. Be sure to use a matched set of brackets and pulleys otherwise you might have pulley alignment problems.

If using 318 exh manifolds you should consider going to headers or larger 360 style manifolds in the interest of matching the flow capabilities of the larger motor.

Have fun with it !

If the 318 is '70 and later then the crank pulley will bolt onto the 360. If it is earlier than '70 then you will have to slot one bolt hole on the crank pulley.

You're going to get all sorts of different answers regarding crate engines. I do not believe anyone has mentioned Maund yet. I haven't heard anyone complain about Blueprint Engines crates yet, so maybe it's worth a shot.

I do hear the Mopar crates have more problems than others.

A reliable engine builder is the way to go...but how do you find out which builder is reliable?

Bottom line is there isn't a straight answer on this. You can take a chance on the Maund crate. Let us know how it goes. If I had to choose, I would go with the Blueprint crate (warranty, 2yr/24,000mi)...IMO.
