I'm shocked that you're getting any decent suggestions on here. This place is tied for 1st place with sesame street

The more you post I have a hard time believing you're in your mid 60's.
Some of the questions you ask and the limited knowledge you have has me thinking you're a bot or a troll in your early to mid 20's.

Limited knowledge is probably because I've always put my family first and foremost as they always was and will be more important than any car. Asking questions? FYI, that's how we learn things
 
I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer but IMO a 340 cam in a 318 will just make the 318 "sound good" without heads for high rpm flow it will stop making power at about 5000 rpm or there about. Yes the 318 will sound good and "do a burnout"...:)

Don't start with Him. He is like beatlejiuce 3 time rule. And you also above mentioned Dan's best friend who walks around cars shows with him Joe Dickhead. If you see Dan and a guy with his hat on backwards, oversized wallet with a chain on it connects it to his pants and old boots with a knife in one. You spotted Dan and his buddy Joe. You know the guy he always mentions that is going with Dan to look at the A Body he is going to buy.

I never but helped my friend Auggie way back when 1_2 Years after high school. He had a 340 he messed up in a 73 Duster. (Had Auggies Toy airbrushed on trunk and his and girls names on doors, air shocks and 5 spoke wheels.
Junk yard low compression 318, J Heads to drop compression (rolls eyes here)
Aluimiunm Intake, 750 Holley duel feed, chrome valve covers, headers and loud muffs pipes dumped before rear end. Close to 340ish cam stock 904 and converter. No gears.
Car looked and sounded great. As his close friends we called it Auggies Doggie bet it was 8 to 1 compression or so. Did cruise nice on highway, sound good and got him and girl looks at the local hang out spots.

That was a reply to Dartswinger340. I doubt he has, otherwise he would not post stupid stuff. A 340 cam in a 318 with 318 heads, can still run respectable with the right combo.

I agree. but 318 with small CC heads. large CC open chamber is a no go at least to me

Yea if these 318 guy's would just throw in a Whiplash cam, dual plane intake with small Holley and headers would solve about 10 pages of drivel.
Why is it that just about everyone building a 318 has no money and want's to do it on the cheap.

Problem is all the naysayers come along and argue about cr v/p velocity displacement and just confuses the OP's and freezes them like a deer in headlights cause they don't know which way to go after. I imagine the OP's aren't looking for miracles, most just want their car little more like a muscle car, the combo don't need to be perfect especially like you said most want to do it on the cheap.

I wouldn’t have thought it was possible to have 10 pages worth of discussion on a mild 318 build.
Yet, I’m reminded of how wrong I am about that, as it seems to be something that occurs fairly regularly.
