This is kind of an exhaust topic..... and kind of an engine topic. So, gonna post it here in "general".

About ten years ago I put Edelbrock heads on a 340. The exhaust manifolds are '68-'70 castings. On the driver side where the manifold curves around the steering column; it curves back close to the block and actually came into contact with the lower portion of the head where it meets the block. (wish I had photos of this, but I do not) I had to grind away some material from the head which wasn't a big deal.

I am now building a 360 for a different vehicle, but I'm using the same combination of Edelbrock heads and '68-'70 style 340 exhaust manifolds. Question is, with the newer Edelbrock head castings.... do you know if Edelbrock has corrected this situation?

Yes, I could contact Edelbrock tech services with this question, but I'd rather hear real world responses from my community members here. Thank you.

I used a quarter 1/4 header flange on mine.

I ground some off the head and manifold as well. Little bit on each. I was grinding on both anyway. I don't have a picture of my early manifolds but did the same for then as well. Had them surfaced and I ported

Do these require two sets of gaskets? I would imagine you'd need a gasket on both sides of these flanges. Also who makes them, and can you possibly provide a part number? In the meantime... I'm gonna head over to Summit to start poking around. Thanks for the input.
I did find them made by Patriot. Both Summit and Amazon are out of stock. I ordered a set of Remflex gaskets. I think they are 1/8" thick. Hopefully that is enough. I really don't want to be grinding again.... ugh.

Back in 2000 when I put together a 340 with Edelbrocks & manifolds I uses spacers, then the next year I was at Spring Fling & wound up speaking with Steve Duilich and he mentioned he had ground the raised area down and wound up hitting the water jacket.... I would suggest using spacers, or at least be damn careful about how much you remove...

This ! ^^^^^^^ !
After being 2nd or 3rd attempt dealing with exhaust leak at manifold and resurfacing same my installer was over aggressive and got into jacket near # 7. Owner of shop had another set of comparable heads and did fresh valve job at his expense. I did spring for new SS valves and lost a few months.
We did go with 1/4" spacers as in post #2 which was dramatically simple and clearance was no longer an issue on 64 Dart. Ugh

Thank you for the input. I think I will go with a spacer on the driver side. Like you say, seems like an easy solution.
