I am about to purchase a late year 360 engine that is going to need to be rebuilt. I was wondering what price range am i looking at to have that done?

I already went through this same thing. At the very minimum, to even get a remote estimate (and it will still be a vague estimate no matter what), you need to state your goals for the engine and what condition it's in right now. Example: are you going for stock rebuild? Just a refresh (if it's good enough), or a full-on performance build (and then, there's so many details involved there). Who is going to do it? Where?

For reference, the best I can tell right now is that I'm going to probably spend around $3k to have my '69 340 rebuilt, but it will be just a little better than stock. It could probably be done for $2k. It could also probably cost $4500. I could spend $10k on it, but won't.

In other words, yeah, it can vary a lot, but the more details you can give, the more someone will be able to help you out.

I tore mine down, cataloged everything that had to be done and priced it out at about $600... to date I've spent about $1500 and some day I'll even start putting it back together.

But don't let that be a deterrent, it's just a lot different when you have it all apart and you know it's easier to spend "a little" now to not have to worry about it later, that's how it usually mushrooms for me.

Hey Mac,

Here's another option to consider if you haven't already:
http://online.hiperformer.com/engines/plymouth-duster-rebuilt_engines-mop_360lb.html
I don't know anything about these guys other than what I've read online, but it appears you can get a stock rebuilt 360 for around $1,500 (plus a core deposit and shipping). If you want a performance motor, of course it's gonna cost you more. Go down to your local machine shop/engine rebuilder to get an estimate and see how it compares. My local engine rebuild shop gave me a quick estimate of $2,000 for a stock rebuild which is probably about what you would pay from HiPerformer. It's all speculation on my part, so be sure to ask the experts.

Good Luck,

My bllock was allready bored and clean. So machine prices are per your machinest.
Otherwise, I got my short block done for abot $1250. I have everything else to finish it up with.
My last, just recently finished 360 was redone with ;

(Prices rounded off and approx;) )
KB-107+030 slugs $210 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/UEM-KB107-030/ (or http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRW-8KH116CP30/ with rings)
Con Rods upgraded and cheaper than re-doind OE rods. Egale @ $500 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ESP-6123C3D/
Moly rings under $38 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLP-E-251K30/
Bearings under $50 $4.50 X 8 = $40 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLE-CB481P/
oil pump $25 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLP-224-4166/
I also did my own cam bearings. I have the tool.

The balancing job with flywheel resurfacing was $345.

A complete cam shaft kit is a great deal like set ups from Comp Cams. Like this one; http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-K20-223-3/

A MP gasket kit is a great money saver that will include more than you need and everything possible. Add a few bucks for small things and a few oil/fuel filters.

The total here so far is under $1500. No machine work included.

I did a quick search at Summit racing and came up with gasket set from Mr. Gasket, Sealed Power and Fel-Pro that range from $50 to $75 bucks. They didn't have any MoPar kits listed at all. Hummmmmmmm
http://www.summitracing.com/search/...als/Part-Type/Engine-Gasket-Sets/?Ns=Rank|Asc

The MP kits did not have frezze out plugs. Just gaskets. Timing cover seal, oil plate cover, (you know that metal plate where the oil filter spins onto? Of course we do, theres a gasket under it, which is included). oil pump gasket, exhaust manifold, intake, oil pan gaskets for the 360 and 318 engines.

Frezze out plugs, and other small parts are in the small part package. Sold seprately. Like this from Mancini racing;

Mancini has the MP gasket set... It says in the notes that the fel-pro kit is more for a complete rebuild (has all of the orings, valve seals and such).

in 2004 my buddy bought a longblock 360 from Kragen Auto Parts for like $875 (What I was told) or something... Very cheap... All he has is Doug's Headers, RPM Air Gap, Carter 600cfm and MSD 6al and Distand 3.55 gears. He runs 13.9's in the 1/4... Not Bad

Good Luck

Don't forget the cost to hot tank, bore, hone, cam bearings and plugs. This varies from region to region but can cost from $500 to $1000.

Are guys working for $5/hr in Georgia? :angry7: I wouldn't advise that anybody budgets a build using those prices.

Your Ga. prices are retardedly cheap. Then again, I'm ready to loose my house if I make less than a 100,000 grand a year. Say what you will.

$500 rods??

I need a break from here.

I know it's overkill, but so are the prices for rod referbishment. Why bother when you can upgraded. Then again, I also did say overkill not truly knowing where he's going to go with this or even end up. Cheaper rods are out there and by half price.

Consider that Con Rod selection an era on the side of caution and greater cieling performance.

My buddy told me he's a happy man making $17 an hour. I know kids here that would give you the finger and some serious choice words for those slave wages.
\He told me a family man can make it on that wage.
I told him a single man would stave in a shared homless house renting a bedroom only sharing the bathroom and kitchen. Well, not the kitchen, he won't make enuff to eat.

That wage is laffable here, great else where. WTF do I know? I know my neck of the woods and that's all that counts.

I'll also make more in retirement, (55 years of age) so when I move to Ga. next to stroker scamp.....:toothy10:
