Who would be my best source for ordering a 360 oil pan and pickup that will work on my 65 Valiant that had a 273 V8? The 360 is from a truck and has a rear sump. PN's would be great. Thanks, Litz

I've always tried to get a little more capacity, if I plan to run it hard. I also like to keep ground clearance soooo...I take a Milodon pan (30940 for a 360) and modify it to fit. In short, chop off the front corners and notch one side of the back to clear the center link of the steering. Not the cheapest route but, gets me a 7.5 quart pan! I can get you some measurements on where to cut, if you'd like.

Thanks for the info and you did a great job on that pan. Thanks for the offer on the measurements but I'm looking for a replacement pan and pickup but not absolutely positive on the pan that I need.

there are (2) "center sump" pass car 360 pans that I am familiar with (might be others). One is an 876 (stamped on bottom) and a 392. The 876 has an ~8" sump that starts ~2" rearward from a plumb line straight down vertical from the very front pan seal lip and the 392 is ~4" and the sump is also ~8" long. the 876 takes a pickup with a long angled smooth bend in it & the 392 pickup has a sharp almost right angle bend. the 392 will work for sure & not sure if the 876 will & the interference point is from the back of the kmember to the front of the pan sump. Likely you could do carefull measureing with out an eng in the bay & see if the 876 will work (it for sure would if you trimmed the K a bit) but I would rather know for sure & get the appropriate pan for no cutting. EDIT The sumps ain't exactly "centered" but are somewhat in the middle, not all the way rearward like your truck pan or all the way to the front like a van pan.

Thanks for the info Robert. Much appreciated.

Can you recommend who handles either, or both of these pans? Cant find anything on Mancini's site. Thanks again

these are OE pans, so I'm thinking either a trip to a yard or place a local ad in CL. If Mancini or others do happen to have what they call a "center sump" pan I would have a tech go make a measurement for you (hopefully he is on commission!)

Thanks for the reply. I found a center sump pan on Mancini's website PN MRE 49059 Pan and pick up pkg. (Pan, pickup, and dipstick. Hope it's the right one.

Once installed, turn the steering thru its limits slowly, looking for interference of linkage with oil pan. I understand you will have to dent the pan to clear on one side. Your 65 273 pan should have a factory depression there, and of course it only fits a 318 or 340, not your 360 which has a larger rear hump.

yup. I ran a cheap chrome one with no prob, but one Mr Gasket I had didnt fit the taller hi capacity oil pump. As stated, run the steering lock to lock and give yourself another 1/4 inch with a BFH. you can always run the taller motor mounts too: There are 2 styles, the ~1" thin "ice cream sandwich" looking mounts or the 3" tall bricks.

I'm having interference between steering linkage and stock 273 starter when turning full right. Using 392 pan and stock engine mounts that were on 273. What are those mounts 1" and 3" from. My car is 66 cuda with 360/904 combo. THanks

So I'm getting from this that my 340/w this pan won't fit without some mods.

yes some dimensions please.

oh yea this is going in a 64 Dart

All I can reinterate is the dimentions on my 392 pan, that the sump was ~8" long & started ~4" back from the very front lip, a plumb vertical line from that & it fit an early A body. No info on the idler situation & I forget if that pan had an idler notch or not but I can check.

Thanks for the pic and info I'll have to check dimension on my pan but it sure looks like some mods are in order.. I also have a couple of stock pans I'll have to look at. I know one is a 68 340 the other may be a 273 pan I'll check tonite.

CORRECT! The front corners of a Moroso pan will not clear the K-member of an early A-body. The front corners need to be trimmed off and a small notch towards the rear of the pan is needed to clear the V-8 steering center link (or it will hit the pan when turning hard left). Sorry for the slow response but, I'll try to get you some measurements tonight.
