What are you looking to get out of the car when done? How much money do you have? What else in terms of stuff do you have for teh car?

What exhaust do you want to use, and are you running manual or power steering? What RPM range do you want? Bigger's usually better on the street, and will lower the power curve in RPM.

i have a 8 3/4 rear that i wanna do 410 or 456 gears and a 833 4spd trans 26 spline ... im not plan'n on spending more then like around 2,000$ on the motor seeing that im 18 and working and school while i do this build ... these are my parts that i wanna get

its going to be my Street car ... I AM 18 Years old and wanna break it out the first Nice warm spring day we have On long Island ......... whohhhhaaaaaa = )

YES --- Power steering !!

The parts that are interchangeable are the heads, rocker arms and shafts, camshaft, waterpump and oil pump. Like the guys say, there are a lot of questions that need answers before recommendations and a few more are what are the casting numbers on the 383 and 440 heads and especially the year of 440. If it's a low compression engine pistons and maybe block decking may be in order.

Ya beat me to some of the answers.LOL. The 915's were supposedly 73.5cc chambers but, and this is important, the first version of the 915's had the small exhaust valves installed 1.60" and would benefit having the 1.74" valves installed as was the norm for most BB heads after 1967. Also while the valves are out have hardened exhaust seats installed for the unleaded fuel of today. Here is an article you may want to consider for the 383 that's a little more appropriate as far as I'm concerned for a street build. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/155_0209_383_engine_restore/index.html

Personally I'm a little happier putting the 383 into an A body cuss it doesn't take up as much room and power steering ain't a problem with Schumacher headers but they are expensive.

Are there any other headers out there besides THE SM i think there lik 700$ or 800$ for the headers ? ... or fender well headers ? ?

Yea TTI but they're just as expensive and harder to install but they are full non restrictive headers.

Also check those crane roller rockers you spec'd out and make sure they are not needle bearing fulcrums.

With the list above you've already spent half your budget, you'll still need carb, intake, headers, ignition, gaskets ect...unless you already have them...as for which to use i'd go with the 440 over the 383..as the big block guys like to say "theres no replacement for displacement":-D

I thought that you were doing the exact build as the magazine motor. The only similarities is they're also using a stock block, crank, and rods. EVERYTHING else is different.

i wanna do the hotrod mag build but my motor Must get bored to clean the walls up and the 440 needs to be built anyways so i gotta spend money geting the motor then spend getin parts

i got the block Numbers the pass side reads

2468130-10 N @ D
L L
and guessing it was built at 6:00 the clock arrow was pointing derictly down

then under the distributor C383
11 3 2
R
DRIVERS SIDE reads

9-14-66 2468130-10

I know it's a youth thing.. Excited and not sure what direction to start in... If it were me, I'd find a complete running engine and auto trans, and use rest of that money to get the car ready for it. You dont have the cash to rebuild anything. But, if you can find a big C barge with a running big block, it's a great almost drop in swap. Big motor, light car. With a stick and the other stuff, you will have plenty to improve on if you stick a stock running engine in it.

Don't need main studs, plus it requires some additional machining.
