'63 Valiant V200 wagon - rare bolt issue

Here’s what I’m dealing with…. Going to try tapping again now.

I can’t get that tap to bite for the life of me - I can only give a quarter turn, and before I can reset the wrench or the socket, it falls out.

I think I’m going to do what I did here on the driver’s side - drill a hole topside, tap through it, and plug the hole with a longer bolt ground flush.

OK, done. Yeah, I missed the hole with that pilot, but easily filled. A nice tight 1/4-20 bolt hole; sometimes you have to power through problems in an unorthodox way, and that’s what I did. But it works for me.

awesome...The end result is what matters. We often use a small cordless drill in the shop to tap those troublesome holes...but make sure the clutch is set so the tap won't break. The clutch will help get the tap started. Then you can get the torque you need without having to turn a wrench or a tap handle.
