65 Barracuda 187 code!!!

-
So i couldnt wait for the intake i bought from 63belvedere. Fedex is backed up like 2 weeks :wack: So i went out and bought a brand new performer intake with all the goodies. I installed it on the car and it RUNS PERFECT. well... almost lol. My holley is still not working correctly, and the thermoquad that i put on it runs really well, its just way too big. I believe its an 850. So im going to buy a holley 650 for this car. Going back and forth on double pumper or not.

Whats everyone think of HEI? I HAAAAAATE wires. So im thinking HEI because i read that its only one 12 volt wire to the distributor. Plus points suck lol. I see on ebay they have small block hei distributors with the coil on the cap for $80. Worth it??

If the Thermoquad runs good on it, use it. They are only as "big" as the engine demands.

Thats good to know! I know it still has a very very slight hesitation in it under load. But it runs real good. Timed 8 degrees after TDC and doesnt heat up past 170 right now. Btw sorry if i was ever an *** to you on that other post. I was under major stress because the government is taking my daily driver on monday since it wont pass smog. :wack::wack:

you can get rid of the bog on a thermo quad by adjusting the rear air door,,thats the flap you see covering the top of the rear secondaries,,if adjusted properly they are great carbs,,,most people hate them cause they dont know how to adjust them,,,,

8 degrees after T.D.C, is way too retarded, should be maybe 8 degrees before T.D.C.....

I think i meant the other... Retarded is when the timing light reads above tdc right? or is that advanced?

Interesting! I know what flap youre talking about too. Ill mess with that soon and see what happens

Your fortunate the transmission was already a later model for your new shifter. Been there! TQ is a great carb, senses air demand. Tighten air door screw while holding lock nut loose, try 1/4 turn. There is also a rod hanger adjustment screw that you can dial in easily. 65 is not the easiest year to modify, everything is tight. I got some driver headlight bezels if yours are missing.

Oh yeah, the performer you bought has 318 sized ports. Easy to port match but they are small out of the box.

All good information man. Ya! PM me about those headlight bezels. Mine are jacked up pretty badly lol. And im not too worried about performance in this engine. I just want it to run smooth and easy. The 440 will be the powerhouse!:burnout:

I got more parts in today! I love it when that happens lol. I went out and got a shorter shifter cable. The one that comes with the shifter is just too long. So i got a 4 footer and it shifts real real smooth in each gear now! I also went over to my local speed shop called Tognotti's and i picked up a radiator overflow bottle. Its a fancy chrome one and i wish i had the skills and equipment to make my own like a lot of you guys on here but unfortunately i have to pay for the nice stuff :wack: My intake manifold came in from 63belvedere, that, i dont really need anymore haha! So if anyone is interested in a 2176 edelbrock performer let me know! It looks like its in pretty good shape!

HA! I got my lower QA1 4 link bars. They look kinda small but this will give me a total of 3" play for pinion angle on the lower links. Same with the upper. Now i just need the tabs, coilover kit, and the Rod ends. Im excited to mock this up!

how does that cable hook up to the trans? i would like to run something similar and keep my column shift but ditch all the linkages.

Ill take some pictures for you next time im under the car. But basically, theres a small tab on the side of the transmission that the cable goes down in to. Then there's a pin that goes on the other side of the rod. Im terrible at explaining things. One thing to keep in mind is with the new shifter, you have to get the new transmission linkage for down there. The factory one will work but you wont be able to manually shift. Also check your setup because im not sure how it would work on a column shift.

Soooooo...... I wanna punch a wall lol. :banghead: This Holley i rebuilt i guess is no good regardless. Well maybe not completely worthless, but more work than I'm willing to put into a used old 70's carburetor. The primary jets in the carburetor were 68's. I didn't know that so i bought new 68 jets because that was recommended to me for my application. While the bowl was off, I blew some air into the needle area with the needle out, thinking that the mixture screw was plugged. I put the carburetor on and I had the same issue. It runs very rough and that mixture screw still does nothing. The Thermoquad i had on the car also is junk. It hesitates very badly on immediate take off, and until the car gets to about 180 degrees, it just doesn't want to run smooth. I did my research and a new Holley 600 dual feed carburetor is about $300 from summit. Before i order it, what does everyone think? Would this be a good carburetor for my engine?

Here's the link to the site with this carburetor. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-0-80458sa/overview/

Oh and I got my transmission lever from B&M today. I guess that's a bit of good news lol.

Well its been awhile since i've been on. Work has been slammed recently. I ended up getting the holley 600 dual feed and it ran awesome. I guess the cheesy mr gasket fuel pump couldnt keep up however so it decided to go out on me. Today i'll be putting the new fuel pump and regulator in. Stay tuned for pics.

While i was en route in installing the new fuel pump, I figured i might as well do this right. I pulled it all out and this weekend i will be installing the fuel cell the PROPER way... Not with sheetmetal screws, and metal straps every which way. Heres some pics of the previous owner's "well done" job of installing a fuel cell. Also some pics of the slapper bars and the terrible welds under the *** end. Hope you guys enjoy.

The last two pics are my stunning, amazing, fantastic sketches of how i was thinking of making a cradle for the fuel cell. Input on that is more than welcome since I would like to do this the right way.

This is a few weeks old but heres the carburetor i picked up. The first one was leaking gas from the little lead ball in the metering block shockingly :protest: So i went and got a new one and it worked really really well till the cheap *** mr gasket fuel pump croaked.

Nice lookin car.

I'll bite- what is a "187" code?

Thanks man i appreciate it. code 187 in California is the code used for when a murder takes place. If you look at my license plate, the original black and yellow letters and numbers are "187." Corny, i know lol

5150, 187, 211 in progress?

I thought it might have been an option code I wasn't familiar with.

Well im getting ready to tear apart the trunk area and get the fuel cell welded in right. Heres a couple shots i have so far.
