66 Dart GT HT Whatsitgonnabe?

-
Hi anders,

Glad to see your project is moving along well. I been very busy with other things around the house, and putting my 1994 chevy pickup back on the road. I will start within the next month to get my 07 mustang GT out of long term storage. I pulled the cover off the other night and saw that the registration sticker went out in 2013. I parked it mid year 2012 , put it on jackstands, covered it up, and forgot about it. Lots of other stuff going on in my life. No time for either the pickup, or the mustang. I got a week without any kiddos home. Its spring break, they are at grandmas for a week. I took vacation from work, and have a list of things to fix and do around the house.

Welocome back, Matt! I've been wondering where you were at. Good to hear from you again!

Yoke, valve covers and the minor things have shipped, courtesy of the famous Mr Don!

Should be here late next week!

It struck me last night that I could paint the air cleaner lid and valve covers to match the engine. The air cleaner needs a paint job anyway. I think I need to look for a powder coater who does detail work. Leanna is too far away.

Leanna too far away! Nope! Just as close as your post office both shipping and receiving - just ask Ulf! She did his Commando valve covers for his award winning 65 DartCharger!

Well, fancy meeting you here, Leanna. :D Welcome to my humble thread.

The world is a small place, I admit, but I think my budget (or maybe my marriage) won't allow for neither shipping fees nor the cost of top-end craftmanship.

It would certainly be lipstick on a pig after all. :D

Oh I've quietly visited it a few times before and like to check in on your progress. :-D Straight up, it's far from a pig my friend! Keep up the fine work.

Alright, my parts have finally left O'Hare and are en route to Sweden.

I'm thinking I should paint the engine bright red, a color that matches the blue body and the valve covers and air cleaner lid to match the body.

I'm still pondering whether to have them black with blue fins or blue with black, white or aluminum fins. Or maybe red fins?

I'll check your site, Leanna, to see if I can get some inspiration there.

- Good idea to check out Leanna's site. I used to consider a lot of color combinations taboo until I saw the work she's done.

I looked through the gallery (again) and I think I will go with a combination of black and blue. I'm not decided on which goes where, though, but I'm inclined to think black with blue fins.

These are the two color tones I'm considering for the body at the moment:

It appears my package has cleared customs in Sweden. Right on!

... or just started processing.

Alright! My stuff arrived today!

Thanks to Don for re-packing everything super well! Very carefully packed.

So now I have valve covers and bolts (thank you, Don!), hub caps, brake rebuild kits, speedo pinion hold-down clamp and a SLIP YOKE!!! Thank you again Don! And a couple of O-rings and some seals I don't really know where they go.

Christmas in March!

The little seals are supposed to fit the speedo pinion. Does anyone know where they go?

when you mentioned you had bought the speedo pinion seals (pack of 5), I looked at them and knew they weren't for that. I looked in my parts book and really couldn't see where they went - so maybe a transmission guru will chime in. You should have the large o ring for the speedo pinion and a small o ring for the bottom of the dipstick tube - you found them, right? Glad to hear the yoke was exactly what you needed. Yes, everything packed really well inside the valve covers, didn't they!

Yes, I found both O-rings. No problemo!

I'm so looking forward to getting going on this! Hopefully I'll be able to get started tomorrow.

Well here's an improvement. And the little seals go in this end, kept in place with a little retainer ring.

Wiped up all the ATF that had leaked out. Turns out the "fix" I did to keep the oil in without a speedo pinion, the brake piston with a few turns of electrical tape, had failed some time ago. That's why the puddle under the car had turned into a pool ...

Now the floor is kind of dry at least. Still a fire hazard, probably.

I also tried to set the car in its proper stance to measure up the drive shaft. This is the car resting on the rear axle with the 17" summer wheels for my Audi A4 plus one of the slots for the Dart in the trunk.

Do you think it's sitting low in the rear? The level says the rockers are pretty close to horizontal, actually a little raised in the rear. What is the "normal" angle for the rockers?

I think that close to level is best for handling purposes, But everyone's cars are not used in the same fashion. I personally prefer a slight rake for the day 2 look. I just did a complete suspension package on a 79 Trans Am. Including fabricate frame for coil overs. He wanted the car dead level, since he want to road race it.
