Figure out what those sleaves are for?
Welding, no? Changing plugs with headers on hot engine?Figure out what those sleaves are for?
He he, I didn't connect them to the incident. Well played.Yup so you stop setting yourself on fire! Those are great! Picked up a pair of gloves like that also Don't think I used my regular welding gloves since.
Opposite.I'm a little confused by how the kick-down is supposed to work. I thought I had it figured out but now I think the cable pulls in the wrong direction if it's mounted the way I have it now. It's the one furthest to the right in the pic.
I want it to pull the lever on the trans toward the front of the car when I floor it, is that correct?
Ok, great, thanks! Then my cable setup skould work. But only if the lever 'wants' to move on its own. I'll look at those pages. Thanks again.Opposite.
Throttle movement off idle should start to move the 'kickdown' lever to increase the internal pressure with increasing throttle.
When the throttle is fully open - the lever on the transmission should be close to fully back. (While you're at it, malke sure thethrottle pedal actually causes the primary throttle to fully open.)
This pamphlet goes over the stock linkage adjustments in some detail.

and this one more generally may want to bookmark for ref.

Thank you.BTW. Great photos.
The shoe that connects to the lever is loose on the cable and is pulled by a stop on the end so there is hysteresis on there just like the stock fork except not in the carb end of the setup. I'm not sure if I need a return spring on the lever to pull it toward the rear, though.I agree you should be able to make it work. I've seen cars with cable setups but don't remember the details. Only one I helped with the issue was it touched the headers and no longer worked smooth.
If the distance the cable moves with the throttle is different than the distance moved at the transmission, it shouldn't be too hard to increase or decrease the length of the lever.

Well you're in good company! At Willow Springs, maybe 2 laps in before my buddy had to pull off the track. Couldn't salvage it after trying for much of the day. Needed a new cable.after I melted the cable on the header!
In a few weeks, 65Dartman is coming to visit! That'll be great! I hope I'll be able to make his visit pleasant.
Wow! That's quite a trip! I hope you're not exhausted by the time you get here. Thanks! We are currently in Paris and will be off to Ireland, Morocco, Amsterdam, And Gibraltar before heading to Gothenburg and arriving May 23rd to visit with Anders. After visiting with Anders, we head to Zurich and visit with a Swiss member. Looking forward to meeting these great members!
Yeah, thanks, buddy! Every time I look at it I think of the $30 or so I saved getting it from you in stead of buying one over here.Glad to see you back on here. Pretty neat to see the throttle stud off the chrysler fifth ave i sent you going to good use.
