67 valiant redo

Got to say that looks awesome. I just bought one for my '74 Dart. Did you make the new cluster yourself? Do you have any more pics of it?

I made it, its fairly simple. Just take a gauge assembly and remove the gauges. Then I trimmed the plastic and left a small lip to epoxy the carbon fiber insert. I made some brackets out of 1/8" thick 2" wide 90 degree extruded aluminum to mount the digital dash to the carbon fiber and viola!

It is a pretty tight fit to get this into the stock location and mediocre drill bits wander quite a lot when drilling through the CF insert. So use good bits and a drill press if you have one. Below are the brackets I made:

Thank you for posting how you did it and the pictures. I will have to give it a go with mine. Look forward to seeing more updates of your build.
Cheers

Just a little update, but I did a garage paint job this summer. Pictures got a little grainy when I downsized them. I still need to repaint the hood and grill.

How’s it running compared to the 451? Looks great!

Thanks, the engine is doing well, still haven't gotten dyno tuned yet. I've been doing some more street tuning and it feels like it is doing better.

One other update was a new intake manifold Fast 102 ported by vengeance racing. It took a fair bit of tuning to get running smooth again, but pulls pretty hard now.

One other detail I forgot to share. I had the car weighed without me in it - 3240 lbs. So it did get a little heavy with all the additions like:

Iron block LS(aluminum heads)
T56 magnum
front and rear sway bars(solid)
Caltracs bars
power steering
heavy-ish front seats
full 3" exhaust out the back

I decided to build a new intake pipe for the car that is appropriately size for the 102mm intake opening. Using 4.5" mandrel bent aluminum for this. Its getting closer to done, here is the progress I have made so far:

2 90* bends cut and welded together, its a pretty tight fit between the intake and radiator. 4.5" CLR was the tightest bend I could find and it barely fits. Would have been nice if I could have used some more gradual bends.

Working on the little airbox/tube holder:

Pretty close to finished on this little project. Not quite sure how I want to finish it yet. Debating black paint, brushed aluminum, or polished.

Nice build. Definitely motivational. The wrinkle finish VHT paint does wonders on intake piping, btw. Once cured you can paint whatever color you want on top of it.

Thanks man, I think I might try the wrinkle paint suggestion. Saw it out in the sun for the first time yesterday and didn't dig the brushed finish too much :)

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I like your style and seriously, every aspect you have going on with your ride, and that tube was out of place.
I did use the wrinkle finish on a Honda valve cover once. I stripped the original paint with aircraft remover stuff. I did not use primer because I was told by an old timer that the reason spray bomb engine paint doesnt work is because it's too thick. True or untrue, it was a honda so why not see what happens. It lasted a good 5 years before it started flaking. Primer and a top coat may remedy that on a lower temp application. Worst case for you is sand blasting and coming up with another idea. Powdercoat?

Just a quick update, I've been updating a few things on the car getting ready to go to the track again.

The largest change so far has been upgrading the front 11" iron mustang 2 brakes to some new 12.19" wilwood brakes. I weighed them on my bathroom scale and there is nearly a 30 pound weight savings!

I also added a line lock since I had to bleed the brakes again anyways.

Finally I redid the dash yet again(3rd time) got rid of the fuel gauge(now programmed into Holley efi). I added detachable plugs for the new steering wheel mounted buttons. Currently using button for a 2 step launch control.

Here's a couple more updates. I repainted the hood using SEM hot rod black.I also ditched the painted grill and went back to a more original look. Not sure if I will tweak it a bit further, maybe different headlights.

I'll have a couple driving clips shortly.

that grill looks better, ads a nice contrast

Thanks man!

Here's the video as well, I had to cut it down a lot. The roll bar mount for a camera phone was not the best, made the video terrible to watch. Anyways, just a quick little 2-step launch and 1-2 shift :)

Sounds like fun!!

Judging by your smirk youre stoked about it as well.

love the upgrades, especially the brakes. It is fun the be in the "fine tuning" stage. Real hot rodders / racers are always searching, and you are right up there with Columbus.

Could I trouble you for an underhood pic of the vents? Thanks

Thanks, I think the improving/fine tuning is the most fun part. I still have a couple changes in mind that I might try

The HDK front end has been great for the last 3-4 years! I would still rate it as one of the most enjoyable upgrades I have put on the car.
