Without a title?Food for thought, If the VIN tag is missing and the car was parted out somewhere in time, There MAY BE another car out there with the VIN tag and registered to some one already !

Yes, that thought has already crossed my mind. I have someone that can check that out for me. In the meantime it will set in the back yard collecting dust like it has since 2005.Food for thought, If the VIN tag is missing and the car was parted out somewhere in time, There MAY BE another car out there with the VIN tag and registered to some one already !
Exactly. Car out there with the real VIN and this one that someone managed to title with an SO number..Food for thought, If the VIN tag is missing and the car was parted out somewhere in time, There MAY BE another car out there with the VIN tag and registered to some one already !
What was the seller's story about the car? Your saying this car was registered in early 2000 and was roadworthy and then was parted out?Yes, that thought has already crossed my mind. I have someone that can check that out for me. In the meantime it will set in the back yard collecting dust like it has since 2005.
I bought 2 Barracudas a few months back , one had a new title in the sellers name, but they didn't check the VIN #s on the new title . They didn't match by 1 # off, Didn't matter since it was just a parts car and then scrapped. A couple years back ROY R bought a Duster here in FL and went to transfer the title and it was already registered in New York State.Yes, that thought has already crossed my mind. I have someone that can check that out for me. In the meantime it will set in the back yard collecting dust like it has since 2005.
The title states it was registered from August 2005 -2006. just checked with Been Verified and according to them it is a 1 owner car with dates that match the title. 2006. I'll try to get a hold of the owner and get more info. My son picked the car up for me and probably didn't ask all of the questions that i would have. I'm currently in a wheelchair after tearing my quadracepts completely from my knee cap. What was the seller's story about the car? I'm thinking the title is not legit or the State of California don't know there *** from a hole in the ground and issues a title with the numbers found on the body. The stamped numbers are the Shipping Order Number found on the Fender Tag and Broadcast Sheet, they DO NOT MATCH THE VIN! Here is another example of SO#'s on a 1968. The VIN tag is missing as well as the fender tag because the "VIN" numbers on the title are wrong...

He might luck out and locate the build sheet in the seats or behind the glove box liner.Get the title in your name and have the Secretary of State Police come look at it. If everything checks out then they will issue a State VIN plate and attach it, at least that is how it works in Wisconsin where I had it done. As far as the fender tag, it is long gone and should not be reproduced because it will never be correct...
I agree.Food for thought, If the VIN tag is missing and the car was parted out somewhere in time, There MAY BE another car out there with the VIN tag and registered to some one already !
Good eye on the rear valence cutouts autoxcuda!Yes title has wrong vin BS27P8B198220
That tells me this title was made up (2005?) after the dash VIN was missing and there was nothing in system for it nor person that took it to DMV had any past paperwork on it. Like no pink slip.
I don’t see dual exhaust cutouts in the rear valance. Would need to see pictures of underside exhaust of floor pan behind rear seat
Agree.I had a 69 Coronet R/T stolen in 1973 with a Swinger. In 2005 I got the swinger back. I also found the Coronet. I have the Titles for both cars. The Coronet is now registered and on the road. I Contacted the State Police and the DMV. What I found was a Duplicate title supersedes the original title. The first thing I would do is see if someone else has a duplicate. If they do that body you have is useless with that title. Also I would not advertise what you have . Someone may come and take it. I believe you have a title that was applied for using the number you have on the body. Be careful what you put on the internet.

Sometimes on /fb marketplace there is no designation for 4 speed. When I sold my motorcycle I had to include 6 speed in the description because it only listed automatic.Good eye on the rear valence cutouts autoxcuda!
Also, in the ad is says the car is an automatic.

This theft earlier this year in SoCal does not list a 340 convertible. But lists 68 convertibles.
This conv has pink going back to 2005. So doesn’t seem related

According to Been Verified the latest title status is current. One owner. The guy is 85 years old and now lives in Utah.. I have contact information for him as well so I’m going to try getting in touch with him. Obviously there were previous title/titles before that. I’ll see what I can findAgree.
Whoever has the last legal registration and title in their name owns the car.
I know. The title that I have for the car is Vin
BH27P8B198220 not BS. I posted it earlier in the thread. Working with a friend of mine to get earlier history on the car so Will hopefully have more info soon

You may be correct. I will get with MVD and get it checked out .

Agreed. I actually have his contact info as well. Just curious, were the convertibles produced late in the year or at the end of the line? I know that they started stamping the vins in the body sheet metal in 69 from what I’ve been reading. The SO number on this one is really high.If the car only had one owner and the status is current, He still legally owns the car with that vin # .
Its good you have contacts with the DMV.
You are going to need help with this one I think.
i've been around a fair amount and never heard of "been verified" as a vin check site (only as a background check service), so to me whatever info they have is suspect at best.
the only one i'd trust to tell me if the car is clean is the national insurance crime bureau.

now here's the rub... you don't have an actual vin to run, you just have whatever the person that reg'd up the car last decided to put on the title.
to me, this reeks of a stolen car or a title wash.
unless you can procure paperwork that pre-dates 05, and said paperwork is extensive, conclusive and has provenance-- ie official, then this whole thing is hinky.
