“Like it or not the car you drive says something about you”.
I heard this years ago.
To a few people a car is just an appliance. Nothing more than a refrigerator.
Yesterday Clark Howard was talking about how what car most people buy is an emotional decision.
People buy a certain type of car because they like it.
For what it will say about them.
See the link for his program notes. He said a lot more on air. But you will get the idea.

“Cars speak to us emotionally……”

Last week I realized something. For the first time in my life (since I was a teenager)
I have no desire to own a 68 Charger.
Why is that?
Because they have become a new type of symbol.
It is because of the movies and the new crowd they have attracted.
It is because of the Barrett Jackson circus.
But more to the point, it is because of something I saw on TV recently.
I saw this bozo from CSI acting like a fool in LA with one.

It is because of the types of people that are driving them now.
Because of the prices and because they can.
Because of the image.
I don’t know if the cameraman deserved to get beat up or not.
I don’t watch CSI or TV in general.
But I know what I, and a lot of other people saw, was a high profile person acting stupid with a 68 Charger.

So if you own a muslce car(ford, chevy, mopar or what ever)your a fool,is that what you are saying.I know for one thing, that a car is not the fool, the fool is behind the wheel, and there is no limit to the amount of fools in some countrys.I also know that my car has never gone out on its own and got a ticket for being stupid and come home on a hook and the officer tell me its been bad tonight. The fools are the people who do not give the respect to the car and thinks its just some thing to have fun with, those are the ones that get the problems. Its also the ones that think they are Bo Duke, and other people and act out their thoughts on the street thinking,if he did it,I can do it better,Wake up my freind, there is only one person that presses the loud pedal, the driver, and the full 110% blame is on his/her shoulders for the actions of any car, mrmopartech

agreed mr.morpartech! how can you punish a car for a stupid persons misuse of a car? i'll take a 68 charger anyday.

I can see where adriver is coming from, the kind of crowd you attract with certain cars can be a stigma,I know that driving a 71 cuda or a "elanor" fast back mustang Im going to have every half wit and their friend bugging me and most die hards will label me a fake.Im not saying that its always the case when you see one but it is a fact that certain cars have a staus surrounding them with the masses.I guess its like the sprite commercial image is everything and you usually see a look at me type person with a fat wallet and no car knowledge driving them.I will always love and appreciate those cars anyway but for car guys to see so many non car guys owning them for the wrong reasons does suck.

I LOVE my '68 cuda... But I'd trade it for a '68 Charger any day of the week ( provided it the right Charger). My next project after the '68 is finished will be a '68 Charger. I don't care who else owns one or what they do ( even though I HATE it when people do stupid things an destroy the.... Think of all the idiots that make General Lees and jump them) It'll be for Me and my family to enjoy, All the rest of the people can kiss my snow white Polish A$$!

I understand where Adriver is coming from and no dis-respect to those who own one of these cars!... We true mopar fans are different then the other car make Chevy, Ford, Etc fans...

Example: Two mopars could show up to the same car show with 500 other brand X cars, I would bet nine times out of ten that the two Mopar owners would find each other!

Now with the TV car auctions and new movies (Dukes of Hazzard, fast and the furies, Etc.) it seems some mopars have an image to them kind of like a fad!

What kind of Mopar fan wouldn't like to own a 68 Charger!

(Or: A Reply to Anthropomorphism Run Amuck)

Hey, who said anything about Chevys or Fords? I still want one of those.
BAD.
Seriously, I knew not too many of ya’ll would feel the same way I do.

Hell, I didn’t even figure anyone would be foolish enough to reply.
But seriously again.

One of the reasons I posted this was because I thought most didn’t know this person had the car.
And I realize you don’t care , except there is one less on the market.

But what I and other observant people, like Clark Howard, are saying is that people buy cars for emotional reasons.
That decision, and the one to be seen driving it, many times reflects something about that person.
Whether it is a 68 Charger or a Prius.
Plain old psychology, friends.
Thought about painting a big confederate flag on that Charger when you get it?

This all presupposes that a person purchases a car to actually drive it.
Not just sit in a lawn chair and admire it.
Perhaps preserve it in one’s garage for posterity?

Did you notice my first sub-title about A bodies?
Which Mopar is wanted?
It's relative.

With the price of gas if one had a Charger with the appropriately large engine, I don't think one would be pressing the loud peddle too often.
Just guessing.
In the summer, on Saturdays, when the weather is nice.

If someone were to give me a 68, well I still might have to take it.
But "want" it?
That's a different question.

O.K.,the depth of your mindful reply lost me lol!,but how did you get the pic of that car?-or I should say parking lot ornament.I drive by that car sometimes on the occasional trip to wildcat to avoid traffic in gresham.

Lost you?
I think you are competing with me for The Most Facetious Poster Award.
Certainly someone located in the sophisticated Pacific Northwest understands my meanings.
I am envious of your location.
The Land of Cotton isn’t all Dixie.
I can say that.
I’m Southern by the Grace of God.
As stated, the picture was in my mailbox in the morning when I got up after posting the previous night.
I just happened to have an “agent” in Portland last week for some type of governmental emergency response drill. (I know noooothing.)
He found it.
It was either synchronicity or providence. Take your pick.
The car has the appearance of being on a pedestal.
Or some types of sacrificial alter.
Like Aaron’s golden calf.

Someone did a “wonderful” job on the poor car.
Don’t you think?
Maybe they are punishing it.

There is a lot to what adriver has said. The people that have the money to buy the hemi cuda's and wing cars and 63 factory lightweights are not the enthusists that we are. They are content to sit in a lawn chair and admire them or pay someone else to work on them. I love my dart because it is NOT valuable to anyone else but me. And I enjoy it more because I started with a car that a collector would have scrapped and made it into a muscle car. The cars that I have always loved have become toys for the rich which makes me sad. Just my 2c

I completely agree with 66dartman. I know several real mopar guys that have sold their cars because they have been made offers they couldn't refuse by people with more money than sense. My best example is my mother's neighbor. He is a real nice guy that just decided to get in to the muscle car thing and went out and bought them. He has a nice 70 purple 383 charger done in a protouring theme, and a 69 GTX. When I met him he told me the GTX was "an original red 440 4spd car." I looked at it and found an 8 3/4 rear, the block is a 78 truck motor, and the fender tag says it was F8 green inside and out. These are the people driving the prices up to were some real mopar guys can't afford to buy them and those that have the cars are very tempted to make many thousand on them. I'd love to buy my wife the e-body conv. she has always wanted but I can build at least 5 nice a-abodies for the price of a really nice cuda conv. I figure my demon will be last mopar if things get going this way. Unless I find the right 68-69 valiant or cuda notchback. At least thats what I tell my wife.

I prefer the 70 Charger,,I dont care for the tail lights on the 68. I owned a 70 Charger 500 back in the early eighties. But i was young and dumb, drove it like a fool and sold it for $150. Dam I wish I had the car back...........
