70 dart 340 4spd inspection

-
Radiator core is visible, no sticker. Grille is 71, not uncommon to have been changed. Not sure if the door panels were used with the low line bench patterned seats. Dash looks correct. Definitely has been partially disassembled for paint, no blackout on rad support. Painted over wiper motor, fuel filler tube etc.

Pictures show zip for authentication.
Another thing for the dual exhaust, check for correct factory dual hangers.

4 spd , wrong air breather, no heater blower motor, wrong shifter handle, not sure about the master cylinder, just a couple of things I noticed from the pics.
Not sure if you know this Noel......Ontario is shifting towards a tablet based safety inspection procedure. Inspections are being photographed (recorded) and sent to the MTO. In light of this, I would not buy a car that does not come with a safety certificate......And a blower delete means a de-fogging delete, which I believe, will not pass a safety inspection here in Ontario. Just food for thought. Good luck. A mechanic's discretion will be a thing of the past if not already.

Yes thanks for pointing out those things, some of which I didn't catch. You guys and this forum rock.

Again good intell. I've heard about those proposals. Thought I heard the new measures have been delayed but not sure for how long ??

Just curious, and don't mean/want to hijack this thread: Wouldn't the Powers That Be "grandfather" the car in?

That I cannot answer. I doubt that was a car that originally had no defrost/defog from the factory. But who knows.....Take a chance at 34K? I guess he could put one in if the MTO requires it.

Not often Canadian cars came without heat

And that certainly doesn't look like a factory cardboard? delete plate. More likely removed to run those lines

100 % sure by 1970 all cars came standard equipped with heat and defrost functions. That said possibly factory race cars or special orders may have had the option of heater delete. This particular vehicle definitely left the factory with a heater box and all that would come with one.

One of the easy give aways is the badge on the trunk lid. Only 340 Swingers came with the Dart and Swinger badges on the trunk lid -

all others had a 2 post Dodge script that looks like the one on the hood but with different posts.

It all depends what you want. $30k isn't bad for the car if the paint and body are good. If you want to return it to dead stock you'll spend some money though. The correct air cleaner is $1000 (still looking for a reasonably priced one). If you want a nice matching numbers car I would expect to pay $20k more.

ps doesn't look like he has a windshield wash set-up either

So I had a look at the red 1970 340 4spd swinger and the good is...
Vin tag on dash says "H" code
Engine and trans match
Has tourque boxes frt and rear
"Coin or washer" on K- frame
Heavy duty clutch and brake assembly
Rally dash
KH frt. disc brakes
Dart swinger emblem on trunk proper font
Frt sway bar
Nice paint
The bad
Couldn't find or see any corresponding vin #'s on the rad support or trunk gutter rail (and we looked underneath with light and mirror)
No heater box
Visible patches in trunk (maybe 6 small ones)
Horn not working
Wire looms for EFI going through the heater hose openings, along with a wire going through firewall clutch rod hole( just a mater of time for that to ground out)
Fuse box hanging down and wires spliced in crudely, along with just twisted together connections. And lots of em.
Holes in headliner from mice

Overall car ran decent and frt end seemed good, stopped well, no pulling. Just way too many small things that were never finished up properly.

Was accompanying a friend who is looking for dart 4spd car and I suggested to keep looking as he's not much of a hands on guy.
Owner would have accepted $29,000 Canadian funds today.
Again much thanks to all who helped with all and any suggestions
