Will I also need an engine blanket???

Our track required engine blankets years ago in my class. I’m kinda glad because it got me off my butt and forced me to get one on. My track manager sells them at cost and I paid a little extra for a heat resistant one because mine lays on my headers. A blanket and a flywheel shield are two different parts except probably on the CRT shield.

So do you think I need to get both blanket and shield?

Yes. I threw a powerglide shield out when I switched to my ATI cases. I had a new 727 shield that I never put on but I can’t remember what I did with it. The aluminum shields are nice but bulky so I would get one before you finish your floor.

Flywheel shield and transmission shield.

Someone was trying to come out with an SFI approved case for a 727 but that project seems dead in the water. Here’s what my powerglide looks like. I bought three of these cases when they were available and a lot cheaper. I can change the bell in probably five minutes from the three bells I have. Chevy, big block Mopar, small block Mopar.

***edited for clarification***

SFI Blanket or Shield for quicker than 10.99. You do not need both, just one or the other. You do need to add a flexplate shield for 9's in addition to the trans shield or blanket.

Edited because the rule book page I posted was from 2018.

What if he’s running 9’s
I must have read it wrong when I was going over my safety requirements.

This is straight out of the 2024 NHRA rulebook and it looks like 10.99 and faster requires trans shield or blanket type shield as long as it is SFI 4.1 which is what I thought but once you go 9.99, a flexplate shield is also required. The trans shield or blanket is still required unless you have an SFI case. For some reason I was under the impression the blanket wasn't good for 9.99 or quicker.

TRANSMISSION, AUTOMATIC
Spring-loaded, positive reverse lockout device and functional
neutral safety switch mandatory. Transmission shield meeting
SFI Spec 4.1 mandatory on any car running 10.99 (*6.99) or
quicker or any car exceeding 135 mph. Automatic transmission
flexplate meeting SFI Spec 29.1 and flexplate shield meeting
SFI Spec 30.1 mandatory on cars running 9.99 (*6.39) or quicker
or any car exceeding 135 mph. See General Regulations 2:12,
2:14.

General Regulations:
10.99 or quicker

seconds (*6.99) or faster than 135 mph (except some Stock
and Super Stock classes as noted under Class Requirements)
and using an automatic transmission must be equipped
with a transmission shield meeting SFI Spec 4.1 and labeled
accordingly. (“Blanket”-type shield, appropriately labeled as
meeting SFI Spec 4.1, permitted
.) All non-blanket-type shields
must incorporate two (or one, per manufacturer’s instructions)
3/4 x 1/8-inch straps that bolt to the shield on each side and
pass under the transmission pan, or transmission pan must
be labeled as meeting SFI Spec 4.1. Permitted in all classes
where an automatic transmission is used.

9.99 or quicker
Comp, Super Comp, Super Gas, 9.99 or quicker E.T. cars, and
135-mph or faster E.T. cars using an automatic transmission,
Lenco Drive, or BRT must be equipped with a flexplate meeting
SFI Spec 29.1 and covered by a flexplate shield meeting SFI
Spec 30.1
. Transmission that can utilize a high-gear transbrake
must be supported by the use of two momentary buttons
(one to arm the system, second as the main transbrake). Air
shifter bottles must be stamped with DOT-1800 pound rating
(minimum) and be securely mounted (i.e., no tie wraps or hose
clamps).

A shield like the carbon fiber one PBR posted would be best in my opinion as it serves as both trans and flexplate shield. Problem is, nobody has any in stock.... lol

My thoughts on this is always if enough guys showed interest he may make a run of them. Everyone interested has to call. Be proactive

Just trying to catch up from this morning.
Who do I need to call
Besides Ghostbusters

By the way, I am trying to finish up the last of the body wiring (lighting circuit) and then I think I am done enough to pass tech. lol

I’ve had mine on order for over a year now…I check in with Kim about once a month. Always says it’s scheduled for next week, or two weeks…blah, blah, blah. Car isn’t close to ready, so whatever:BangHead:
How cold is it where you are right now?

Looks like Jegs had a CSR, says it ships 1-17-24. Might need to look into one myself. How do they fit with a stock tunnel on a a body?
