Not much to report, just did some quick rough porting on my tunnel ram runners. This ought to be interesting since there was all kinds of stuff wrong inside of the runners. The shapes were followed from what wieand cast, today I focused on taper and port shape. It should come out fairly decent. As it was the runners were 0 to -2 degrees of taper. I'm working on the lower runners in this picture.
Sorry these Pictures suck though.

I installed and degree'd the new cam in today.
Not the 1st time I did it, last time was in highschool so I forgot.
I used a calculator to find the center of the overlap triangle close as my timing set would get is 106.5 icl.
I tried 3 different advance keyways & each one retarded the cam further.
It didn't help that I failed to do my math correctly on the 1st try. I came up with 102 when it was really 112 so, finally I said to myself retarding the crankshaft will advance the cam.
Since newbomb was probably busy, I bothered him about my findings. He told me the same thing right after I changed the timing gear the last time lol.
Checking piston to valve clearance in a day or two.
Sorry no pictures yet

Back in the claimer days we had to do everything cheap as possible. There was a $325 claim on the whole engine and $25 went to the guy running the wrecker to pull it after the race. We were racing small block chevys. We would save the good gears and chains out of the motors we tore down. We would drill out the bolt holes and the locating pin hole by hand ( no drill press then) and use an offset bushing in the locating hole to get the cam where we thought it had to be. Seemed like they never moved the cam the amount the were supposed to. A lot of trial and error to get it right.

Im Probably totally missing it but why did they call them claimer ?
My boss is a roundy round guy and mentioned those many times.

When I started racing it was under IMCA sanction. They had a rule that said something to the effect of " all competitors finishing in the top four in the feature race are subject to have their motors claimed for $325 with $25 going to the wrecker that pulls the motor at the end of the race. Drivers that finish fifth on back and on the lead lap are eligible to claim. So everyone called them "claimer motors".
If you finished in the top four and got claimed your "still hot" motor went home in the back of your competition's pickup that night. There was a lot of sin involved in building claimer motors and a lot of drama at the racetrack.

I’ve always hated claim rules. You always had guys that just built garbage and then they’d “claim” a top 5 engine.

It was stupid and it still is.

In fact, the AMA has (or had as of about 5 years ago had it) a claim rule. At least in the lower levels.

Haiden Deegan was winning. A lot. Not only was he winning he was smoking the other kids.

No doubt Deegan had money behind him. His dad is massively successful and he’s good with his money. Plus I’m sure they were getting at least some sponsorship help.

Anyway, that stupid rule was still in effect and one of the kids he raced against (his mom and dad really) “claimed” Deegan’s bike.

No one racing at the level these kid were are flat broke. They ain’t picking **** with the chickens but clearly some have a much smaller budget than guys like Deegan.

Anyway, this kids family claimed Deegan’s bike.

The ensuing **** storm could have predicted by the most simple mind.

I don’t remember the details now but I think the kid never got the bike. If he did it wasn’t for very long.

The whole debacle was a black eye on the sport. I don’t know if AMA fixed that idiotic rule or not.

Sadly, the kid that claimed the bike is nowhere to be seen for whatever reason and Deegan is still fast. Faster than most of the class most days.

The upshot is you could give me any top 5 MX bike and rack me up with the best in the world and when the gate dropped I’d be so far behind the pack after 3 corners I wouldn’t even be able to see them.

A world class rider or driver can do very well and even win on substandard equipment.

A slow, talentless hack like me can have a world class bike (or car, bowling ball, pool cue, whatever) and not even qualify.

Claimer rules are repugnant.

I remember that debacle and Yamaha certainly threw some weight around with that one. They did NOT want some random kid getting ahold of that bike and blowing it apart on you tube. I wish the kid went through with it. But apparently the dealership that “helped” him out was the driving force to pull the claim.

Yup. The rule was the rule until is wasn’t. Politics at its finest.

I finally got a little more time although it cost 3 hours of not working, rough porting is really close to finished, I did all 8 runners by eye for now, next step find the biggest runner and copy it.
I'm very surprised I only busted through in 1 spot lol. I have ground through just about all of weiands runner aluminum. It's getting pretty big in there.
Picture of my junky looking short block while degreeing the cam, I'm trying to get a gear drive as this chain is stretched more than I expected after 20 Dyno pulls.
Lastly here is the cam card for the solid roller.
I run 1.6 rockers so it should be .680ish lift with lash .
Thanks for looking.

What kind of springs pressures will that have on the seat and nose?

If I remember correctly 280 on the seat and 660 open.
That's where I want it, I will have to verify still with the mic. I checked the springs already at a few different installed heights and I think it should install at 1.920 with .050 - .060 coil bind
