72 duster Build progress

ChallengerGary's stripes are the shizzy... no doubt whatsoever.. I loved the stripe he did for the buggy, and I have to say dude, your right, that stripe really sets your Duster off.. Man does that look sweet!! I am loving watching you get her together.. This must've been how you felt watching the Dart go together LOL .. Your car is no doubt gonna be absolutely bad *** dude..

Yup, I have got a few vinyl things from him, great guy to deal with.
And yeah, thats kind of how I felt. except I was looking at your build dreaming that my build was that far along lol. FINALLY though, Its coming together. I enjoy working on it at this stage. I have more fun with it and its not such labor intensive work either.

love it with the stripes- still debating putting some on mine (my brother picked up a set, but they're '73, so that won't work) and yours makes me more convinced that I'll put some on (although no 340 callout until I get the 416:D).

I debated over a few different style stripes for awhile but ultimately decided to go with my original choice and I am glad i did. I love the way it looks with this stripe package. really changed the looks of the car.

Man love the way this baby is coming together and turning out, love the the stripe. Can't wait to see more. Congrats again on a job well done man she is beautiful.

Thanks Brad, means alot to hear people recognise all the hard work. Makes it that much more worth while

I know that feeling as well.. and trust me, your hard work definitely shows my friend... Isnt it nice not having your arms hurt like hell for days after a night working on the car?? LOL

Jerrod, you may have covered this already (I am getting old and senile after all) are you gonna put the stripes on the tail panel as well? (Around the tail lights and such) ... I think that will look awesome... just my .02 lol

Looking good ! I would finish wet sanding and buffing it out before the clear turns rock hard. Its gonna be much easier now then it will be later on.

It goes back in a couple weeks to get the wet sanding finished. My painter threw his back out for one and also has another car he needs to get finished up in the mean time. Then when it goes back he is the one thats going to finish the wet sanding. And he is already aware that it takes a little extra elbow grease once the clear has cured up.

Its not like its cutting through cottage cheese textured clear lol, the clear laid out pretty nice to start with. We just decided to wet sand and wheel for that much better of a finish out of it. But it all laid pretty flat and didnt taken much effort in wetsanding to get it to a satin finish really.

We have been blocking with 1000, then D/A it with 3000 then hitting it with a cutting pad and cutting compound, then a polishing pad and polishing compound and it came out really sharp.

Oh and AMD is sending me another new front bumper, The new bumper I got from them that is on the duster now looks like it has a few spots where from the factory they ground into the metal with a grinder and then chrome plated over top of it. It looks decent, but bugs the crap out of me. And being that I bought them brand new. I was not happy with "dealing with" the imperfections. so another one is on the way!

I don't blame you, after all the effort you put into get the car a perfect as possible. Even if nobody else noticed it..YOU would know!

And again, great job!

Hey that comment hurts! ... LMAO Im glad your clear laid nice and didnt run into the horrors that I did with the clear on the buggy :banghead: even still I hope after a few weeks it still sands easy...

once its sanded with 3000 on the DA its almost shiny anyway ! I just hate wet sand rock hard clear.

I hear ya, I did my part on wetsanding already though....the rest is on the painter to finish and he knows it will be a little harder once its cured up. His arms and shoulders that will ache not mine LOL.

and yeah, once its down to 3000 it already has a pretty good shine to it.

Yup... I hate doing things twice but atleast its just a few bolts and its off. And they are taking care of the shipping on their dime,I just have to box it up and they will have fedex swing by and pick it up when im ready.

Wasnt directed at you bill lol , I was just saying in general.

And sorry for the lack of updates these last couple days guys. I have logged in about 800 miles on my truck in the last 2 days driving my brother around looking for a vehicle. He finally got one though today...so now I can get back to work on my stuff. lol

I know it wasnt directed at me bud... lol.. I was just messing with ya.. though my clear really did turn in the cottage cheese you mentioned LOL ..

HAHAHA, bummer. Looks like you got it knocked out though because the buggy sure did turn out looking SWEET!

Thank ya sir..I appreciate the compliment... I am pretty happy how she turned out.. however I wasnt totally able to get cottage cheese out LMAO .. if you catch it at just the right angle (or put it in a garage under false light) you can still see more orange peel than I would've liked.. but... it is what it is.. I still think the buggy looks pretty bad *** and as long as im happy (and the wife too) then thats all that matters to me... Your car looks like a sheet of glass compared to the buggy... kudos to you.. like others, including myself, have said already, your hard work has paid off big..

Yup, I have LOTS of time and work invested into all the body work. Was not fun and I am glad thats all done and over with now LOL.

I still have some sanding on some odds and ends like my scoops and spoiler and stuff, but thats all easy stuff.

But I am happy with how it all came out. Looks really nice.
