72 duster Build progress

-
finished all the sanding today, got it all blown of,washed, dried,on jack stands, wheels and tires off and a good portion of masking done. Should be doing paint tomorrow. suppose to be REALLY hot though ,so my painter is talking about spraying the base tomorrow and then waiting until the next morning to shoot the clear so we dont have any issues with anything from all the heat and humidity. anyhow, SOOOOOONNNNN she will be ALOT farther along progress wise and then i can start focusing on the little things and the details and getting it finished up finally.

Here are some pictures from today.

Almost looks like base clear silver here lol (p.s. some of the lines might look funny in the pics but they are not, its just where spots of sealer got sanded down to the primer underneath in a few spots)

more updates to come guys ,stay tuned!

YEAH PLUM CRAZY YEAH, can't wait buddy my favorite color. Looking good so far.

I prefer the hooker max flows. Sound a lot better then the flowcrapers and make most power behind warlocks and straigh pipes. But can't wait to see it all done!

I still have a set of Sonic turbos on my, cira 1988, long with a H pipe. They've always sonded great and they make good power

AS PROMISED.......BIG UPDATE!!!!!!!

ok, so its been hot.....REALLY hot ...over 100 degrees!. BUT.....we worked our ***'s off and made it happen. took us an extra day because with all of the heat we sprayed base one night and then clear the next. We ended up using 5 coats of base to get the color just the way I wanted it and 3 coats of clear.

I am not going to write to much on this post, Ill let the pictures speak for themselves (lots of pictures)...let me know what you guys think!!!!! ( P.S. ITS FINALLY IN PAINT GUYS!!!!!!!!.......I have been working on the Duster for 3 years and the days has finally come that its in color....and on independence day none the less. Now comes the fun stuff (putting it all back together!).

Congrats Jerrod!!!!! I know exactly how you must be feeling, and that joy is an awesome feeling.. The car looks AWESOME!! All your hard work, time, and effort really show. Enjoy the moment... And your right, now comes the fun part of putting her back together...(it is fun, but also scary.. lol.. I was almost afraid to touch anything after the Dart was all blue! LMAO) ... Great job my friend!!!!!

WOW, AWESOME
I Know that word is used to much but I think it's appropriate here be cause she is beautiful man Jerrod that car is just out of site. I am so glad for you enjoy your new ride buddy. PLUM CRAZY YEAH!!!!

Brad

Outstanding Jerrod....You look like the "proud father" in that picture LOL!. :D

Real happy for you man.

Pat

Thank you guys!.

I have so much blood sweat and tears into this car (literally) And we have worked countless hours on it, I bet combined we have a couple thousand hours into it.

BUT, I have always been told that you paint is only as good as the body work. so even with it being as long and grueling of a process as it was.......The end result it shows.

Yes it is scary lol, just have to be extra careful putting the new stuff on.

The first things I am going to do is paint the bumper filler panel, hood latch support and both mirrors to match the body. Then spray the hood scoops and spoiler satin black and then all the spraying will be done for good on the car. Theres really not much left though.

Im just happy to be to this point and proud that I stuck it out and seen it through even though I was tempted to throw in the towel on a few occasions.

anyways guys, stay tuned because Ill be updating more as I go.

I am glad you stuck with it as well!! There were alot of times I wanted to just quit, stuff the Dart in the corner of the garage and forget all about her... there were alot of people that gave me reason to keep going and the advice and support to see it through (you were one of those people several times!) the Duster turned out beautiful.. I cant wait to see stuff going back on it... remember, tape the edges of the car when installing stuff... like bumpers, window chrome LMAO... etc etc ...

HAHA, yup....thats what I was planning on. dont want any booboo's during install of new parts.

Though booboo's happen LOL .. I nicked the paint the first day or re-assembly... lol.. then my wife nicked the door on the final day of assembly lol... thank god my hearts good LOL ..

Congratulations! She looks outstanding! And I'm glad you upgraded your mask for the clear!

I am so excited to paint my car!!! So with 1 gallon of base you were able to do 5 coats? Did you have any left over? The color looks amazing and I cant wait to see what it looks like in the sun!

No i had a gallon and a half, which made 3 gallons mixed, i had about a pint mixed left over all said and done, and i used about a gallon and a half of clear o. It. Looks awesome!.

Ok so i should buy like 6 quarts of Paint. You painted your hood, I am not painting mine, so I should have a tad bit more paint left over, but i still need to paint the engine compartment. And for 3 coats of clear it took a Gallon and a half? Dang haha Well it will all be worth it, just like it is for you!:prayer::happy1:

The engine bay i used a quart on unmixed. 6 or 7 quarts should do everything you need to do. Yes a gallon and a half of clear, it wasn't 1 to 1 ratio like the paint was so you cant stretch the material out as far. Normally ill do 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear which is good. But the purple was pretty translucent so we did 5 coats to get the coverage and Color depth we were going for

Yeah, I understand. There is a picture you took of when you did the engine bay and the purple just looked amazing. That is what I want and I will remember this all, so thank you!

Thanks guys!....I really like it. I am just glad that whats left to be done to the car is stuff I consider "fun and easy" after all the not so fun and hard work that has been done up to this point lol

Not a problem, Glad to be of help.

I know the pictures you are talking about. The exterior looks the same in person. My phones camera doesnt do the exterior paint any justice but it looks just as rich as the engine bay did when I painted it. My brother took some pictures today that show the paint better....Ill post them here in a minute.

well you beat me to paint :p mine just got stripped :(
looks good

Sorry lol, didnt mean to beat you to the punch. Just decided I couldn't drag this portion of the project out so I have been on the ball working on it non stop so I could make it happen.
