72 duster Build progress

Damn! You are a machine when it comes to that body prep. Looks fantastic!

Pat

I don't know about a machine lol. not a bit of it has gone as quickly as i would have liked for it too. BUT now is no time to rush through it so I have been trying to take my time at it and if I don't like something I see....I take my time on it until it is the way i like it.

so far though, all the added time I spent on the body work phase really is paying off though because block sanding the primer is going great (besides that I am flying through paper because this 2k stuff gums the paper up so quick lol).

But, thank you again for all the detailed pictures you sent me awhile back, it really aided in nailing all the lines down the way i wanted. it was all mostly on to start with but your pictures helped in confirming that.

took today off, to hot to work and I am whooped and needed a day off to catch up on some sleep. but ill get back at it tomorrow so I dont get way behind. stay tuned everyone!

P.S. anyone just coming into the thread.....look at the previous page as i recently posted updated pics and info and that thread page filled up pretty quickly.

Thank you.

Did a bunch more block sanding today. should be able to have all the blocking done tomorrow or saturday. then the plan is to spray sealer saturday, then let cure up over night and scuff on sunday and then take for paint sunday or monday. thats what i am hoping for anyhow. we shall see!

Oh , and the new set of marker lights showed up today! , one more thing to cross of the "to get" list.

My pleasure, glad to help.

Cool...don't you just love crossing things off "the list"? My list unfortunately seems to grow daily, I cross off one thing and and three more! :banghead:

Dusterdude,
I might have missed it............what was the brand of the latest 2K that you used that covered so well? Your work looks good. L8r

Its my local paint shops recommended budget brand called autobody master. Slot of places around the country offer it. So far i have used slot of that bran's products and been very please and that's also what my painter uses for his primers and sealers. They offer base and clears also but i haven't tried them and already got my paint through ppg.

Been working hard at it guys, it was suppose to go in for paint today, unfortunately between all the upnand down side to side, sitting on the floor, bended over, etc...etc... Yesterday it caught up with me and i threw my back out. So i had to come back home and stay on the couch, cant stand or walk. Today it feels a little better though, so hopefully i can get back to work on it soon!. Its a huge dissapointment to be so close and yet have something like this make it feel so far away. Ill keep you guys updated

As much as its frustrating to be that close, I have bad back problems, so I can sympathize with how your feeling.. but just take it easy and get the back better.. the car will still be there.. Dont push too hard now, or what should only be a couple days on the couch can wind up a couple weeks (ask me how I know LOL) ..

Thanks bill, yup just taking it east for a couple days. Feeling a little better today though, so hopefully I'm back to normal over thennext couple days, i hate be down lol. Yesterday i had to use my wife as a crutch to get me to the bathroom throughout the day. Luckily today i was able to stand and walk on my own.

Anyhow, today i put my transgo tf2 shift kit on order aswell as a new hood to cowl seal, new water outlet and a spool of new fuel line. Just trying to get a few odds and ends i still need. Have a parts wanted thread posted up of things i still need , maybe you can check it out and maybe you have something!. Alright, gotta get kicked back for awhile again now

I checked out your parts needed thread already, unfortunatley at the moment I dont have anything on that list...But I am keeping my eyes open.. Hope that back continues to get better

Checking in to see how your back is holding up... Hopefully your feeling better dude..

Thanks Biil, I appreciate the thought.

yesterday my back was feeling ok so I decided to get back to work on the duster. Today my back was ticked off that i decided to do that yesterday LOL.

today I still toughed it out though and finished sanding the duster and got it all prepped and sprayed my sealer!,except I had to have my father spray the roof and bottom of the rockers for me because I couldnt make the stretch with my back.....and he has a bum shoulder so it wasnt an easy task for him either lol.

back feels like crud but its sealed. oh and went and grabbed the trailer from my painter and dropped it off so its ready to load the duster up tomorrow and then its off to the paint shop where it will get final sanded and sprayed in plum crazy purple finally. long time coming and cant wait to be done with it.

I am hoping my back feels better tomorrow. of all things to hurt, it had to be my back. screws up everything and slows me way down.

Sounds like that back still needs a little down time my friend... cant wait to see pics when the Duster comes back..Your almost there

Thanks, yeah I cant wait. long overdue to finally be done with the project. a couple more weeks will be 3 years since i got the duster too. so would make for a nice "anniversary present" lol.

also, I wanted to update, my new glove box liner showed up the other day,all my new fuel line showed up,new intake water neck, new hood to cowl seal AND my new transgo TF2 shift kit showed up also.

cant wait to get it painted so i can start in on the easy work like slapping new parts on and putting side stripes on and odds and ends like that lol

Wow!! I had to go back to page 28 to get caught up Jared!
I am enjoying this thread and it brings back some great old memories for me
When I got to see the primer first going on and seen after all the great work you have dun I could smell primer here at my table enjoying my coffee :happy1:
Let your back relax and move smart, don't be bending over!! squat not to stretch the tuff tight mussels that are healing :-k would be my advice.
I am so happy to see this great news it is ready for paint

I saved this picture so I could repost it here :D

Looks great and I thought the stop sign was fitting along with the clock
Ready for the spay booth :happy2: Time to STOP!!

Congratulations

HAHA , thanks Mike, it wasnt until you said something that I noticed the connection between those two things hanging on the wall. "time to stop" LOL.

Today, we got the duster un masked, backed out, emptied all the stuff and parts out of it, got the trailer set up, loaded the duster up,took it to the paint shop, unloaded it,blew everything off and got a good bit of sanding done on the sealer.

should be able to get it all sanded out, blown off and rinsed in the next day or so. then mask it and paint!

its going to be plum crazy purple finally here real soon. stay tuned everyone!.

Oh and heres some pictures from today.

That's awesome brother  I'm looking forward to seeing her in all her Plum Crazy glory.

Also, what size meats do you have out back? I need to get a new set of rear tires, running 255-60-15's now but would like something "beefier".

I want to say off the top of my head they are 275/60/15 but ill have to double check real quick

Yup ,just checked, 275/60/15's in back (fronts are skinny and 14's) , the rear has had the springs relocated 3" inbound on both sides also though. not sure if yours is factory so I don't know how big a tire you can run.

Thanks much. I like the way they fill the wheel opening. The 255's I have just look too small. And a little bit more width can't hurt traction either :burnout:

Have a good one,
Pat

AWESOME!!! Glad to see the Duster is at the last stop before it turns colors. I cant wait to see pics of it all purple.
