73' B3 340 Duster pro touring build

Wow.....It's gonna look like some kind of big block!

Too bad you aren't here. Just had a big dinner with HemiDenny,
HemiMark, Donnie, Weeb and Mark (Bout) - Denny's painter.
Jim wasn't here but his truck, trailer and Hemi Demon were.

It's part of the Ohio - PA parts and vehicle shuffle. Mark and Don
dropped off Jim's Demon for updates and they will be bringing Mark's
in-process '68 Dart home to Pittsburg in the morning.

A Big Block look isn't really the plan, But I really want the Engine to look as unique as possible....I ordered a different breather so I can see what looks and works the best. I will admit a 2" spacer might be a little tall and Friday I'll mock everything up again with both spacers and then I'll decide if I want to Machine them down some, as long as the breather's clear.
Sounds like a good time with everybody getting together.....again.

I just love being around you boys.... My Dart is a little depressing but life goes on....

Don and I should have planned our trip better.... we went right past Summit Racing.....not to far from you, correct?

Here is an oval that you can put on your valve covers to fit your oval theme from the rest of your car. It would also make your engine look very unique in a Duster. :D

:hello2:

That would be quite the 'cowboy' move but it has been done, the thread I wanted to link up has mysteriously disappeared, but I think you may know what I am referring to :)

:sign3:

Not sure how the ram is obviously faster than the goat, because I don't see Dave lining the two up at a light.

Those small block Chevy valve covers with the ford logo are perfect for my next mustang project.

I don't think the Goat would understand the what to do when the light turned green, Kind of like saying hunting is a sport...usually both teams involved know it's a competition and play by the same rules.

Those Valve covers must be made for the Hot Rod guy that builds a $50K 32' Ford and Then puts a Small Block Chevy in it....and when you ask him Why? His answer is always "is it's cheaper to build a Chevy" ....Hey bozo you just spent $ 50K I really don't think another $500 to build a Ford engine is gonna break you.

I thinks you're right, but I also think the real reason is that it is easy and people are lazy.

For example, I saw an episode of some car show where Chip Foose was building a classic mopar. He chose a Ford 9". Now in reality the Ford 9" has a good rep and is a quality piece, but I think the real reason he went with the 9" is he had experience with them, he had a trusted builder with them and it was a known quantity.

Why do guys go with a SBC? It's easy, it's a known quantity, they don't have to learn anything new, and there is a ton of aftermarket support.

I SLOWLY building a 6.1L Hemi Dart and in all honesty if I'd simply built a big block dart, I'd be done. New and challenging is fun, but it is not always cheap or easy.

Regards,

Joe Dokes

Today I took my Radiator cover Template down to the car for the first test fit. All things considered it went pretty well, although there will be many alterations to the design before the next test fit, The large holes are going to to simulate the steps or layers of the cover to give it depth, style and firmness. It's going to be 2" wider to cover the fans and the front lip needs redesigned. Its going to held in place by the hood pins and adjusters along with some extra "hidden" hardware. I also test fit the bushings for the hood pins where they pass through the underside of the hood, those are going to get remade also, if I make them 1/2" longer they will fill the gap between the hood panels for a cleaner look.
I also started "Fitting" the Valve cover spacers, I decided to take some measurements of my engine and compare them to my dads 6 pack engine...the top outside edge of the Valve Covers are 2 1/2" wider than stock and the Top of the throttle bodies are 2" lower than his Carbs. I guess it does sort of look like a Big Block now that both spacers are installed.

I feel.....sort of.....vindicated?

Sweet panel for the radiator bulkhead....can't wait to see the final rendition.

God....I love that hood!

I should know by now...When you say something, it's usually very accurate and shouldn't be questioned. Lesson Learned.

The next template should will be pretty close to the final product then I'll make it out of 16 gauge steel. The cover will be painted body color and the inserts (big square holes) will be the stripe and scoop accent color.

I wish I could bring the hood home for a couple weeks I would add louvers flanking the scoop.....but I can't so no big deal, I still like it.

Oops! I was talking about the AAR hood in the pictures above.

This hood is very interesting and if I saw a picture of it with no
other information whatsoever, IMHO I would have guessed 1968
Mustang/Shelby or Torino/Cyclone (maybe that's what it is???).

Yep, right again The picture was there there just to show the vents that can be purchased and added to any hood but they are shown on a Mustang hood. I knew what hood you were talking about I just added the Mustang Pic to show the vents.

looks good Ross.

Weeb and I ran into some boys from your area at Norwalk and we talked about your off the charts build. ...everyone is impressed at your level of creation.

Gonna be one $hitkickin hot rod!

A word came to me that describes what your car is not....

Unmolested. :)
