73' B3 340 Duster pro touring build

-
I know I've shown pics here and there of the front tire at ride height but some of you were probally wondering was if or how I could turn this thing. Well here it is, with the suspension under it, brakes on and everything clears and I have a turning radius equal to a new car. Trust me it was no easy task getting all the parts to play nice with each other, there's still a few small changes that need to be made for optimum fitment in the motor mount/steering area, but nothing more than "Small potatoes"....and yes thats Denny's hand showing that there's plenty of room at lock to lock. Remember that these are 26.30" tires not the typical 24.5" low profile mustang tires..... that would have been the easy way out. No offense to anyone going that route, but theres lots of extra tricks to get here.. as some of you know. For those of you that have seen Denny's Hemi Duster, this car is 2" lower than that.

Ross..... I knew that there was something different going on there but I have to say I didn't think you could'nt get it lower. very nice..... I think you hit it out of the park. I'll bet your faith in the K frame guy from Findlay has gone throught he roof.... Mine has since 1999! LOL Again, it looks great.

It's amazing what three hot rodders can do when they put their heads together.....someone called us the Larry, Moe, and Curly of modified A-bodies

wonder what they meant by that?

That is waaaayyy low. Looks very good. I have to ask, What is that on the top rear on the fender? A patch panel, or just something laying there. Or maybe some more of them "Small Taters".:coffee2:

That is where I deleted my radio antenna hole.

Shhhhh, don't be giving away that kind of privledged information or I'll have to take my toys home and find someone else to play with.
I was wondering if you actually did this since reading Denny's post there and I'll be honest if you did section the roof it's flawless and I might have to follow suit because I have been thinking of doing it for a while now.

I wish I could pull something like that off but to answer your question..... No, I did not section the roof. Actually I think it's the only body panel that I've left alone. Good luck if you go ahead and try your's. I think Denny was trying some misdirection.

I'm actually thinking of taking 3/4 of an inch out of the a pillar and a pie cut out of the c pillar to get the roof level when she's on the ground But if I'm cutting it I might as well chop the whole thing 3"

I personally like the suttle change of 3/4" makes the car look good, the 3" chop is to over the top and obvious. I'd have to see it to determine how it looks on a duster. Good luck

way to spill the beans...

BTW...it's disinformation...at least that what the "Company" terms it

Aah, but what and where ? If at all........I saw Mission impossible once and I thought they called it Misdirection, but that was many years ago.

from looking at your Duster stance mock-up (post #753) ...looks like your around an inch, give or take, lower than your original target stance

gotta luv it when THE PLAN comes together.

Believe me when I say that I'm done moving the suspension height around where it's at is where it's gonna stay. Time to move on to the hood and exhaust

I am still waiting for the hood back on page 32 and of course my hood in the mail for my 73 duster. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Well I guess the hood will probably never come to my door but I would love to see it on yours. I wish they made a nice custom hood for 73 dusters but I have searched with no luck. just those stupid Fiberglass hood and who wants that when you got metal already.

I mean I am not going to drag race the car.

Keep up the good work I like the front end with the new radiator supports, should tighten the front end up a little bit more as well.

Work has been killing me so I have been just looking at my car in the garage.

Is this still the new exhaust plan?

NOW there is something to hang your hat on...
here kitty-kitty....

great one!...I will be laughin all day!

Well I spent my lunch friday cutting some .125" aluminum exhaust tip styles out on the Flowjet, originally I was trying to keep with the center exit theme, but later decided that maybe that was to modern and didn't really flow with the Duster body lines, So..........I am going with the traditional split duals but will incorporate them into the rear bumper and not hang below like the originals. Again these are just prototypes subject to change and probally will, once I pick a design I like I will make them out of 2.00" 6061 T-6 to give them depth and contour of the factory bumper.
I also started on the Hood, thats my main focus right now and will complete that before I start cutting up the rear bumper....I dont want to get to many fires burning at once. been there, done that. It looks like the C-5 corvett tip will be going up for sale ....actually it is for sale.

still like the Road Runner exhaust tip (from the back)...that oval shape

would fit your....dare I say ...theme

don't forget ,my other goofy idea.....try the scoop backwards (just thought I would remind you in case you forgot that little tidbit of design genius)

Okay Denny Just for you I flipped the scoop around....(see first pic) I'm just not feeling it, so I flipped it back and cut and fit everything in today. Looks to be a pretty straight forward and easy modification, I'm going to have to add some metal to the front to fill the factory dips in between the headlight buckets and center bulge. The underhood bracing is going to take a little extra work to resemble a factory look, I kind of figured on this before I started cutting, I think I'll make a reinforcement pan with a big center oval and add all the contours to resemble a factory stamped piece and replace the center bracing with it...more small taters

Looking good!

Thanks Shawn,
Now I have to decide if I should weld or bond the new skin on. I never used a panel adhesive before but being able to eliminate the warping associated with welding sounds pretty cool, I'm sure by paint and body guy will appreciate it also. :thumleft:
