Love the build Ross, its nice to see someone else thinking out side the box.
Andrew

I just can't figure you guys out...you gotta cut up everything and move it around.....what is wrong with a stocker?

Here we go again with the "stocker" thing. Who has a "stock" Duster that we know....No, your doesn't count.

Who has a "stock" Duster that we know.....
Note to the younger members: You must understand that HemiDenny et al
come from the era of the late great Don Carlton (see photos).

Word has it that when they first desperately needed to reduce frontal area
to be able to compete with the much smaller Vegas and Pintos they watched
the NHRA teching the cars and noted that they were determining the overall
width by the center-to-center measurement of the headlamp lenses.

Soooo......they built a Duster with the headlamps in the correct location and
they used up all of the space between the lenses and the front fenders. The
rest of the car was an inch narrower.

These images (from my pal, Stewart Pomeroy, former owner of the original
Mopar Missle Duster as depicted in the famous ACCEL spark plug ad) show
a couple of the other liberties taken. Note that the front fender mod has
been emulated on HemiDenny's current "stocker" Duster.

Why do they do this now? Entertainment? To honor the legend? Just never
trust one of these trecherous old bastards.

Notice the front bumper(s) narrowed an inch on each side.

I plan on narrowing the front bumper also to match the mod I did on the back ans we're planning in giving them both the polished aluminum treatment...researching that now.

Well today I went to Compu-flow in Medina and picked up all my motor parts that Nick Wilson worked his magic on. He bowl blended my Edelbrock heads and swapped the springs to match the Comp cam I'm going to run also upgraded the 7 degree locks and retainers to 10 degree pieces, clearanced the block for the 4" forged BPE stroker crank, bored and honed with deck plates, squared the block, balanced the entire assembly, sized the rods and all thee other good stuff to make the engine assembly correct.....again no short cuts here. I was a little shell shocked by the cost of doing it right but I only want to do it once..now I'm officially broke, I had to dip into the paint fund to get all this done, Don't tell the painter that, although after seeing the car again last night I think I have a few months or so to save up again.

looks like Christmas to me!

Yea, looks like no one else gets a gift though...theres $5400 alone sitting there.....but don't tell my Wife. Gonna take her to Las Vegas in Febuary I'm sure I can win that much back, Right ?

Beautiful. You'll be glad you made that expenditure. 408 cu in?

....and that Missle B-pillar move? Amazing. I never knew.

71' 340 block...(I bought off of HemiMark)
4.070 bore, 4" stroke = 416 cu
Decked the block so that it will be a 11:1 motor

I really considered going 422" (4.125" stroke) or 440" (4.250 stroke) but I alread had the diamond pistons.

that B-pillar mod was on the wire car.....I do not think the public saw much of the car until the past 5 to 10 years

Coming along NICELY. Gathering motor parts is always fun.

Are you willing to divulge the camshaft type and specifications?

yea, but prices went up considerability since the last time I built a motor...but I did decide to use the best parts and not skimp on anything so I guess I shouldn't complain.

X2 I built a super nice 360 small like 10 years ago . Had 40 over block . Srs pistons , h beam rods, stroker crank . Internal balances , decked, line honed . The works little over five grand . Fast forward 10 years later and I have over 10 grand in a 440 bb stroker with all the goodies

I know the pain and had to stop my gathering for now.

That's going to have that nice busy, "on-it's-tiptoes" sound I love to hear in a street motor.

I told the engine builder, that it was a 90% street car but I didn't want to be embarassed at the track and I wanted something with an attention getting idle at the local cruise in, but want good drivability and this is the cam he came up with. I wanted to go Roller but Nick at Compu-flow and my engine builder were against it for my needs and wants. I also said I wanted to be in the 11.70-11.80 1/4 mile times. They laughed and said they could build a junk yard motor to go that slow (or fast)

Exactly, heres the 360 engine I built back in 2000, my total for the build was around $4800 including all accessories. Back then headers coated were only $300, My current TTI's (bare) were $749. I'm sure I'll be around $10k when it's all said and done...and it's stilll just a old school small block. I am leaning toward making a Fiberglass engine cover for the Duster like the one I made for the Power Wagon, I also will be using the same style valve covers too.
