air gap vs ld 340

-
Its going to perform much like the rpm, Edelbrock didnt rate them by ROM range back then but it would probably be in the 1500-6500 range like the RPM. Just use which ever you find the best deal on, You wont be disappointed in any of them

OOPS I was thinking performer I guess .
It happens, no big deal.
..but the LD340 is hysterical...oops,.historical!
i think the trip from the carb 3 or 4 inches to the intake valve was figured out 40 years ago.
The LD340 is slightly shorter then the RPM intakes so the runner have less height but are about the same length as the RPM's. The RPM's runners are slightly straighter. The runners on the LD340 are also larger. It is Minor thing.
does any one know the exact rpm range of ld 340 intake
Agree with AdamR on that. I would have guessed 2-6 or 2.5-6.5 area.
MoPar tested the intake a good bit back in the day as so to determine its performance ability and level. In the end, MoPar thought the intake well enough to sell through there own Direct Connection line and had a list of cams to use with it.

At one point, due to rules of road racing demanding a Dual plane intake, they modified it for use with a TQ carb and a milled center divider for More plenum and RPM range.

They recommended "for use with cams over .550 lift" which back in the day ment a pretty large cam. It would equal approx. a cam starting at about 250* in duration @ .050 at a min. And that is getting to be a sizeable cam.

Well, going to aluminum will save you at least 25 lbs off the front end. It may help you if you have hot restart (fuel boiling) issues as well.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up the performer rpm. Seems like that would be a good option for you as well as it still has an exhaust crossover, and is a little shorter...and is also available new.
Nice Duster !!!!

I was thinking of a black Edelbrock finned air cleaner for around town and the unsilenced chrome Chrysler version for shows (the one that says the 360 is as 318 4 barrel). Do you think either of those will work?

Air gap makes a great engine hoist point, loop a tow strap under the plenum and hoist away...You can get a Crosswind new for less than a 44 year old LD340 and its the same intake (slightly less plenum volume) as the air-gap. I had an air gap and the ports core shift almost didnt seal! Crosswind was dead nuts on but a little smaller, ideal for port matching.

It should fit fine depending on what air cleaner you use,
Right , with the air gap just clears the hood using the stock 1970 340 air cleaner (on my car ) , make sure to measure clearance , don't want a stud nipple on the hood . Did that on my first Dart with a 4" deep edelbrock air cleaner , base had no drop like factory unit , ouch

..i use the LD340 and 1/4" phenolic resin spacer under the carb... the stock '70 air cleaner left a perfect circle imprint in the hood insulation pad in my Duster.
..i made my own engine conversion mounts so maybe my engine is a bit higher than stock even though i used a 340 Dart for reference.

hi i have decided to go with a performer rpm with a edelbrock thunder series 650 cfm. i was going to go with the air gap but heard to many bad things about cooler weather. is anyone running a set up like this if so how is the performance,is the carb big eniugh will i lose much between the intakes
