AlV 69 Dodge GTS project

Thank you so much for the photos and information. I have my glass removed now. Instead of removing the stud for the adjustment I simply lifted my vent window frame straight up and off the stud. This allowed the adjustment to stay in the proper location without disturbing it. I just finished painting my door jambs and inside door panel. I ordered all new rubber seals, cat whiskers (a.k.a. beltline seals, door felt, window scrapers, etc.) and plugs for both doors. While everything is torn apart, I'm replacing 50 year old parts with new stuff.

If anyone else removes their glass, be careful of the light blue plastic connector at the bottom of the window. There is a secret to removing it without it breaking into small pieces. I learned the hard way how to remove it because it broke. Thankfully I came across a vendor who sells the factory replacements.

Those are nice!!! Where did you get them? I should do new lights for my car which I drive at night all the time with the kids.
the brand is truck-lite model 27270C and I purchased them on Amazon. there are better lights but this is a great all around light and price point.
This is a great review

Just found this thread & spent a few hours reading through (sometimes I can't sleep at night). Your build is certainly top notch; but what impresses me most is you show up as the new kid from motorcycle city, start asking questions, and before long you have folks asking YOU how to do things!

Maybe you're one of those guys that scored super genius on a high school IQ test, but you certainly mastered the art/skill of research. I'd bet you could tackle a Cessna, or even programming microprocessors in record time. You have my respect.

I live near Al and he not only is extremely capable, he is very generous with his time. Out of the blue he offered to come over and work with my son and I to install the engine in our Duster project. Just a great guy!

Wow! Thanks! You’re too kind. Sorry just seeing this.. I’ve been away for a bit.

Guess whos back on the rack! The transmission has had a slight leak for the last year and a half. Turns out the Neutral safety switch is leaking through. Happy about that.. cheap ez fix. Been thinking about fuel injection. Interested in hearing thoughts.
cheers!

Great to see you back! Can you tell us more about the lift?

Were you able to find a new seal for the neutral safety switch, or did you replace the switch all together?

Hi RRR, thanks! The Lift is a Danmar two post. It comes with lift adapters for extra height, 6” and 8” that can be combined for additional 14”. It has two pad, saddle and round plus pinch-weld cushions. The pump is a 110/220 I have wired for 220. The lines are connected to the cylinders using quick connects. Low profile arms. 6000lbs cap. 50” height from floor plus the additional height with adapters. 7 locking positions and ALI certified.

I have read through most of the post and quite frankly am overwhelmed with the detail! I tried to find the answers to the following questions with no luck. What source did you use for the clips that fasten the vinyl top chrome trim to the rear dutchman and and the clips for the sill chrome spears below the doors? Thanks!

BTW, I have a '69 GTS 383 Dart and I have already decided to use your post as a restoration guide.

It's been a while but I think I was able to get those from RTspecialties and Dantes but I think both those vinyl trim clips and the rocker molding clips are pretty available today. Try the two shops I mentioned, classic may have them now. I know when I was l restoring the GTS I had to horse trade or buy used parts too.

Alright alright alright…. Do you have FI? No i don’t. Well it be cool if you did…
lol.
I finally broke down and decided to do the swap.

FItech setup go efi 30002 with the force fuel mini.

Goals
  • Ease tuning through software
  • Improve drivability.
  • Improve throttle response.
  • Improve fuel management.
  • Retrofit solution with easy reversion path.
Considerations
  • Have a fuel delivery solution that I could easily convert back to carb if I wanted to in the future.
  • Integrated spark control management in conjunction with the MSD 6a unit and pro billet distributer.
  • Self learning system
  • Solution should be well supported and widely available.
  • Air conditioning.
  • Have fun tuning.
Time to dredge the forum for insight, lessons learned and start the work
Stay tuned (no pun intended)

What up FABO FAM, I want to give an update on my recent escapades. Per my previous post started a project to install FItech EFI and install Classic auto air under hood kit ne compressor brackets receiver and hoses to the factory evaporator and controls.

This is a bit long but should be entertaining and informative.

I'll start with the classic auto air install. The kit came and it was very well put together with all the brackets, bushings, hoses adapters and receiver. I picked up a receiver bracket and hold down clams from @rainy. The installation is straight forward, easy and in my opinion looks real nice.

The Fitech install went well. Initially I bought the fuel commander but ultimately returned it in favor of a new tank with FI pump and sending unit. Grounded directly to the chassis and to a ground wire I ran from the battery to the trunk.

I bent a new 3/8 return line using the supply line as a template and then ran them in tandem.

I mounted the fuel filter on the inside frame top of the wheel well. everything looks clean.

Soldered in the Fitech harnesses and fuse box with relays.

Installed fuel pressure gauges and started the set up process

Started with putting the balancer at 10 BTDC.

Set the reductor center on the pickup

Advanced the adjustable rotor 10 deg in advance of the post.

Got it to start but boy something did NOT sound right. To be honest, I had been noticing something was up the No2 cylinder the last couple of drives but it all fired up and ran pretty good with the carb. I did notice what I thought to be a miss so I put it on the list of things to look at.

Well after a couple of tries I could not get it to idle right. I had fuel pressure 60PSI, set the initial timing to 10 deg. and I had spark (checked with a tester). But uh oh the exhaust was warm at all the cylinders but No2.

I pulled the valve covers and B**M found this.

I found two pieces but have to believe the rest fell in. Will find out more when I pull the pan.

nothing left to do but smile smile smile

Dammit, doing great work, sorry to see rocker failure. Always seems something with hydraulics, whether its lifters or rockers...
Like I said nice work, looks great!

ouch! I wonder what on earth caused that!
