Talks about the 273 in the 64 Valiants. Cool old video.

Thanks. Cool to see the birth of the little LA. Technical answers to many of the "why this?" from the original designers.

Even some info for slant owners. The 64-65 slant tranny has the same internal upgrades for the V-8, so is stronger than 63- models.

I wondered what the unused holes on the kickdown bracket were for. Very clever. The 15 ft-lb torque on exhaust manifold bolts sounds wimpy, but they stress it so I will follow. I doubt we requires the special left exhaust gaskets w/ heat shield for new silicone plug wires, but it does give the classic look. They even show the lower exhaust braces (often missing) that many of us recently learned of on this site.

From the video....
"I'll bet it was quite a project to design a V8 engine to go with our compact Valiant and Dart"

Some engineer probably said...'I pity the poor hot rodder that ever wants to put headers on this thing' :evil4:

That one gravely voiced guy is sure irritating, LOL

I take it that when they mentioned the '318', they were talking about the 318 Poly ???
In Australia, the exhaust maniflods were the same left and right, downwards facing centre exit.
But, we had a remote oil filter mounted on top and at the front on the engine....our steering boxes are mounted to the righthand frame rail.....and the idler arm is mounted on the left frame rail.

I hope you guys realize that there is a "whole pile" of these, many of them technical

BUY far thee best small block ever built,BUT I wish a mopar man would have designed it and designed it like the big block only smaller..if ya know what I mene........like to use the same trans dizzy & motor mounts to fit any chry.car.6 or 8 CYL.thats the ONLY thing I will give chevy....and thanks for sharing....Artie :coffee2:

Here is his whole YouTube collection with a bunch of old mopar videos from the 50s up. As,Bs, E bodies, etc....enjoy!

Actually you are missing part of it if you go there

Go here

and then here

and choose by year or by topic.......as there are digitized written pamphlets as well

Here's the one goes with the video the OP posted:

For example, on page 6 (in your viewer, 4 on the paper) is some good info on the dist. The top listing is for mechanical advance in DISTRIBUTOR degrees, not crank. This means that the auto dist. has about a 20* advance curve, and the stick shift has about 25* at the crank. Sound familiar? It should----------a 20* mechanical curve is just what you want for a mild performance engine, as opposed to the later "smogger" stuff.

this is something all of our children I mean young guns should watch hell I even learnt a few things.like the old saying goes about the old dogs........lol....Artie

I have watched almost all of them and plan on seeing them all:cheers::cheers:

My junior year autoshop teacher actually looked like Tech... A LOT.

I must have seen dozens of those.

Difference between me and the rest of the class is that I watched them, while they all read "car craft", and bitched that the films were 20 plus years old.
