I believe my wheel has to go a bit deeper than it is. Horn doesn’t work, and from what I see in other cars, the wheel is not close enough to the end of the steering column. Any advice?

With out a photo(s) this post is useless.
What car, what year, what was done?

I replaced the crappy, broken one. 69 dart. If there is a specific pic that would help, I will take it. Thanks in advance…

Did you line up the spline properly ? Can you get the big washer and nut on ? How about the torque setting ? I can't remember what it is but it's in the service manual.

The spine is lined up, and the nut is on. I do not know the torque setting.

Hmmmm
There must be a difference between the wheels....

Looks great from the pic, but I don't remember "that" wheel on the 69 and I did own one.

I wouldn't mind seeing the entire car, while you have the camera out

The picture shown is the correct style from what I can see. A close up would help.

You should just be able to crank the big nut down until its all the way on the splines. Remove the horn pad and you’ll see what I mean. Be gentle.

Don't underestimate lubrication on the splines and nut.

But the splined hub may be the wrong size. Is it a reproduction wheel?

I'm nobody's idea of an expert, but maybe I can help a bit. I'm pretty sure the new wheel you are installing is for a later car. I don't know if that's a factor in your situation or not, but this is what a 69 Dart wheel looks like. Obviously I'm missing the horn parts, but the wheel itself is entirely different than your photo. @str12-340 is pretty well versed in early 70's Darts, perhaps he will chime in.

That is the exact same wheel
As mine…

Maybe you could step back a bit and get another picture where we can see even less detail.

The wheel in the OP photo is a 1969 DeLuxe steering wheel. The only difference in a 1970 DeLuxe wheel is the 69 wheel has a smooth rim and the 70 wheel is pebble grain (better grip?). If you had a standard wheel (3 spoke, center round horn button), and didn't change the horn mechanism, that's why it doesn't work. The mechanisms are very different. Do you by any chance have a picture of the horn mechanism? I can tell you right away if you have the right one.

If the blue wheel is like your original wheel, is your car a GT or Custom? In 70 that type of wheel was standard with the Dart Custom and the GT as a part of the "high trim level" - VIN starts with "LH". Those same wheels were the DeLuxe steering wheel on B- Bodies in those years.
