so i was looking at my pan today and thinking i wanted to make some baffles for oil control... so i got it leveled out and started adding water... the pics speak for themselves and the fingers are how many qts...

so i need somebody with a 68 dart SL6 center sump pan to take pics and measurements all arond the pan, sump to k, front of pan to top of k, rear sump to center link, anything to the sides ofthe pan?

looking to "expand" the pan for 6qts in sump, but with the engine in a different place then the engine i cant do it myself...

thanks guys

P.S. anybody who races should be really thinking about this, 2 qts in the sump, 1 in the engine, 1 in the oil filter, means .5 to 1 qts of flying around in there and the sump could go dry!!! depend how this goes i could make these to order...

According to the 6 cyl engine book, you want at least 6" from the bottom most travel of the rods and a swinging pickup !! Just my .02 !!

yea but i need pics for clearance issues, im going to have to go out to the sides im thinking... there is no way this will fit... not with the drag link back there...

did u lower the floor of the pan?? is that what im seeing?

do you have pics from the side and how much did you lower it?

Wish I could help you, just not at that point yet !!But I will be watching so I'll be ready when the time comes !!

So what do you really want to know ED? There are a number of folks that have modded oil pans. Some even use oil accumulators and other devices.

i would like to know where i have clearances so i can mod the oil pan for 6 qts in the sump...

im thinking kick outs on the side that way there is the same or close to the same ground clearance...

No offense meant here.....but honestly, how fast you really gonna go with a slant to need all them oil pan mods? I mean really.

well with no oil control currently and shooting for 13.5 i think that it should not be over looked... its not hard for me to do it i just cant remember what my clearances are...

Well only reason I asked was cause lots of stock cars ran around that speed with less exotic oiling systems than what you're plannin. Certainly though, it will be nice when you're done. Never has been anything wrong with overkill.

well i just dontlike the idea of so little oil in the sump and its ability to go everywhere! seems really easy to uncover the pickup...

I go along with that. But wouldn't some carefully placed baffles and a windage tray work just as well? Don't take this as arguement, I'm wantin to learn too since I'm fixin to be buildin one. I mean....most everything I've ever built has gotten by with a good baffled pan and windage tray.....some even without trays. I've built some nine second engines, too.

im guessing you dont use a stock pan on those 9 sec cars...
if you look at the pics i posted there is only 2 qts that would be "secured" by the rear baffle...

This is how I did my pan. Cut the bottom off the sump, and then weld in a strip of sheet steel about 2 inch wide. Instant 2 inch dropped sump. Extend the pickup to the bottom, and run 1 qt low on the stick. Top off with a windage tray. My next motor will also have a dual crank scrapper.

Yeah in fact, on a couple I did. They were stock LS6 big Chevy pans that come with generous baffles to begin with, not to mention factory windage trays. Yeah, I see what you're talkin about now. You had to spell it out for stupid. lol

See....reason I was askin all the questions is I was takin for granted the slant oilin system was ok for performance applications, similar to the stock small and big blocks.....but quite obviously, I was wrong in that assumption. So is pan modification the only alternative? Does no one offer a pan for the slant?

well when i first built the motor i called everyone from moroso, milodon, to a mopar only shop back east, could make one for 500 bucks but for 30 bucks in sheet metal tops i'll just do it...

well i'll go to a junk yard and see what they have, get my clearnces there and build one up!

well 2" on my pan would only give me 4 total in the sump... better but i was hoping for more like yours... what is the pan number on yours?? seems like yours is bigger to begine with...
