As I’m sitting in the parking lot waiting on my wife to see her doctor for a 10:45 am appointment. She text me and says she is still in the waiting room! Doctors think that their time is the only thing important. Pisses me off.

...and they'll charge you if you're late or have to cancel on short notice, even though they've overbooked.

My last doctor had a sign on the wall that said "Please let us know if you've been waiting longer than 30 minutes past your appointment time".

If you did, they just said "we're running behind".

and then you have those patients, who make an appointment for a cough
come in and oh yeah, i also have a head ache
        and this finger hurts
and my cousin jimmy he read something online

not to mention those who show up 15 minutes late, and insist on being seen, nevermind this puts the entire day 15 minutes behind schedule

i feel you man, i really do
but to say this is a problem that lies solely with the health care provider may be a bit presumptuous

No it happens to often to be a hospital emergency or emergency conference call or the chicken ate the fan belt of my car and it overheated. I had a 8:00 appointment at a podiatrist and at 9:15 am i heard him walk in the back door and announce good morning to his staff.

I must admit, our GP is fantastic. We rarely wait more than 15 minutes.

And unless you know for sure the doc was home doinking his girlfriend instead of at the office for your 9 am appointment you don't have a leg to stand on. Geez!

I dont care what the hell he was doing. I know i had a 8 am appointment and i was not seen till 9:30! If that is ok with u than why make appointments? Lets just do first come first serve. I guess your time is worth less than mine.

Did you ask him why he was so late? Were you mad at him or are you just mad at us here because he was late? Maybe he had a emergency. Next time it might be you that needs the help and someone else will be inconvenienced. If he started out a hour and a half behind schedule you can damn well bet he isn't having a good day and probably didn't do it on purpose just to piss you off.

Ask them how can a doctor be that far behind at 8AM?!!?!?!?!?! Usually booking an early appointment helps but not in your case. Sorry. My GP is always on time or I would find another but if I go somewhere other than my regular office and wait, I ask every 15 minutes for a half hour and then I tell them DO NOT BILL ME loudly in the waiting room. I leave and never go back. There are also reviews on Google, Yelp, ETC. Write one.

I agree there are times but at 8AM??? If there were to be a "reason" then the staff should speak with the patient and explain the circumstances. They owe that.
One time I had an appointment a ENT specialist group at 9:AM. It was the day after the superbowl. I sat for 45 minutes. They got me and brought me for an unscheduled hearing test. Took about 20 minutes. Then they brought me back to the waiting room for another 30 minutes watching patients come and go. They then walked me to an exam room where I sat again. I could hear the doctor chit chatting in the next exam room for 10 minutes. While this was going on some of the staff were at the front desk laughing it up over some BS. It's now like 10:45. I walked out and made a scene in the packed waiting room letting everyone know. Never went back. Left a review with all the details for everyone to see. The office contacted me but told them there was nothing they could do to fix.
Doctors get ratings. About all you can do.

No wasn't sorry nor did he explain why he was late nor did his staff come out to the waiting room where only i sat to explain why he was going to be late. But the girls did collect the co pay at 8 am when i got there! Why would I be mad at you?

My father in law was a doctor and was pretty good about his patients having to wait about 15 - 20 minutes max for appointments...

However whenever I went to his office, they got me in within 5 - 10 minutes.... When you are married to their daughter you get 'special priviledges"... :D

Or sometimes I would go to his house 2 blocks away after office hours... (He lived in the neighborhood next door to ours...)

I'm sorry that your physician treated you that way. I'm a physician and I do my best to try and run within 15-20 min of a patient's scheduled appointment. I admit that sometimes I fall behind because a patient needs extra time for additional probems but I do my best to give them time for treatment. I seem to find that younger physicians are less inclined to start their day on time. I think that is shameful.

Couple of our docs have the same sign. And when someone mentions they have been waiting for 45 minutes the receptionist just shrugs her shoulders.

Prior to the scamdemic....damn it I mean pandemic our GP was like yours. Hell, many times I had an 11a.m. appointment and got there at 10:30. They take the appointments as they show up, as long as it does not hang anyone up. My appointments are normally about 3 minutes long...nurse takes my vitals..minute or 2 later doc walks in and asks "the usual" and walks off. Unless he is slow and then he likes to sit and chat with us.

Yeah....ain't that great? I had an appointment to see a new doc. It was 20* and snowing so we left an hour early. Everything for us is at least a 35 mile drive, this doc was about 40 miles. We got hung up at an accident about 3 blocks from them. We parked the truck in the nearest parking lot and walked. Appointment was at 11:45...we walked in at 11:48. Cancelled. I refused to pay their stupid fee....they sent me to collections....

I have 3 Dr’s in the family. One of them was old enough to get out when the insurance company started to dictate to him how to run his private practice. The younger one that had his private practice and was forced to a conglomeration, told the board how many patients he can effectively see per day. They doubled it, which he says ties his hands on the quality of the visits. With obvious exceptions docs today are not the independently wealthy, do their own thing people that we grew up with. BIG business seen them having too much fun with too much profit, and wanted a piece of the action. Many are dictated to on every level. The best Doc I ever met sent all of his patients a letter about 5 years ago stating his disgust with the health care industry, and regretfully resigned.
