Barracuda spare back glass storage

I had an opportunity to buy a spare 65 back glass at a good price. Gotta pick it up soon. Has anyone found a way to store this piece without taking up a lot of room? Standing on end/leaning against wall etc? Thanks
 
I stuck my 69 barracuda fastback rear glass in my exposed garage rafters. It can't be accidentally broken by anyone up there.

I would wrap it in bubble pack and some cardboard. Nuts can go flying sometimes! I like the rafter idea. My preferred way to store glass would be its longest flattest edge down (like a record, dont store flat)

You guys are joking me right? A spare? For what? Do you think you're going to break one of those? If I had one I would hide under it during an earthquake or a missile attack for that matter... I've got a spare about 2 hours away.. it's sitting in a friend's yard and he said he'd pay my gas to come get it anytime I wanted it....
Break one of those....lol....
 
That's just it - by the time I actually DO need one they'll be 5 grand. :lol: Thanks for the storage recommendations.

yes even the wrecking yards were saving them at one point because they're one of a kind and so valuable. Or at least that's what they thought. Come to find out the situation is exactly like you say. First and foremost I've never seen one broken except for on TV.... and honestly even the one on TV they didn't really show being broken it just was shown whole and then all of a sudden it was broken like TV Magic... honestly I would have loved to been a fly on the wall to see the size of hammer they had used to crack that thing...

I have a spare also. I bought one for 80 bucks. It was not as scratched up like my original. i built a crate to store all my glass. Its on a pallet in my storage building all safe and sound.

So years ago I'm negotiating for my wife's 66 Barracuda. Actually from a member LOL I say that in jest because he joined the Forum with some sarcastic name like junkie fish and was a total Chevy guy. He only joined to sell the car and we haven't seen him since. Anyways it was about that time that that episode of Desert Rats was on and broke the rear glass and talked about it being worth $2, 000 LOL well during our negotiation he reminded me that that rear glass was worth $2, 000 LOL when I finally got myself up off the floor I offered him double his asking price in rear windows...
Of course his answer was no...
when I informed him of how much he had paid for the car and that I was not going to give him that much of a profit he was bewildered. After we'd finally made the deal I told him a good idea was not to leave the receipt for what you paid for it in the glove box...
 
For you guys storing them in an elevated position, I highly recommend some wrapping. I am assuming they are safety glass like Duster back glass. When it breaks, it goes into millions of little pieces. Yes, they are very tough. I have banged them around pretty good. Even a good tap with a hammer just for experimental kicks. LOL I had one in storage against the wall in my garage for a very long time with no problem. Layed it up on a blanket covered table to clean up before I was going to install. Was scraping old goop off the edges and not really sure what happened, but it completely disintegrated in a big pile of snap, crackle, pop!

so where is this 66 Barracuda now.
 
Sooooo you think you will never need a spare huh!!! Here's my story...
Back in the early 90s I had an '84 Camaro. If you're familiar with them the rear window was part of the trunk / hatchback. Rear window is similar to the 64-66 Barracuda window. Not as big but concave in nature. One day it was parked in the driveway, trunk facing the garage door and I hear this loud boom. I go outside and there's glass all over the ground and very little glass inside the car. My neighbor just happened to be mowing his lawn towards the direction of my car and he saw the whole thing happen and stated nothing hit it, it just exploded for no reason. This scene looked like this... all the glass was going. At least 90% of it was on the ground and very little in the car. The rear spoiler which is connected to the trunk hatch was sticking out one inch. This lead me to believe that the concave nature of the window and the extreme summer heat buildup inside caused it to explode. This caused the glass to go flying outward. No other explanation. Best way to envision it was if someone was laying in the rear compartment area and kicked the glass outward. So I always said I would get an extra one (and I did for $50.) just in case the same thing happened to my '66 Barracuda. From that day on, I always crack a window at least a half inch in the summer time..... anyway I have it stored upright in Storage with padding and boxes surrounding it.
