I have a 340 block with 360 heads, and I want to get a new intake manifold. Any suggestions on best intake option? Thanks

Actually, Action Plus if it's a TQ. Stealth is the same but with a square bore carb pad for a Holley. Adapters hurt air flow but spacers can help.

A good dual plane will work best for just about any street performance and most race applications.

X's 3! Use your head, not your heart.

Reply above is right on... the missing info is what you're going to do with the car.
If it's a street car dual plane is the right answer: new?eddy airgap, vintage: Eddy LD340

Best intake for what? To sit there and look at or actually run good? What are you gonna do with the car? The Air Gap aint the only intake in the world, nor is it the best for every application.

It might be best for you but without a complete question how do we know? All we know is you have a 340 block and heads. I think you need more parts before you worry about an intake.

..rpm may be better than the air gap for cool weather and efficiency if that matters

LOL.....:cheers: Every component matters and needs to match. If it is completely stock long block, that cast intake will be hard to beat! I once did a test on a 360. It was a pretty baseline motor save 9 to 1 pistons, and a mild MP cam with headers. I removed the cast intake and TQ for a LD340 and 750 dp. I gained exactly .15 in the 1/4. I brought with me a 625 carter AFB. I bolted that on and lost a tenth. I take it the 750 dp was running a little richer and thus the reason it outperformed the TQ and carter.

FWIW, carb tune is VERY important and it will vary between engines as well as individual intakes. Similar to the above comparison, I did try to optimize a 4779 750 DP and a 3310 750 vacuum on my race car. The DP was about .10 faster. I don't recall the mph, but I'm sure that was a bit faster as well. A 4777 650 DP ET was about the same as the 3310 750 vacuum. A DP can be made to leave harder than a vacuum carb in most cases.

Agreed.....

You need to match up the Intake to the overall combination.

* Type of Driving {Daily or Performance or Street/Strip or Radical}
* Compression Ratio
* Camshaft
* Carburetor
* Transmission
* Gears
* Exhaust
* Ignition
* Car Weight

What Intake Manifold and Carburetor combination are you utilizing now ?
