Birth of the Blue Missile

OK,
Physics lesson.
The design of a folded horn does two things, first because it is a 'loaded' system, which means the hole the sound from the speaker goes through is smaller than the diameter of the driver, forcing the driver to work to push it through 'loads' the driver and makes it more efficient.
This is the same principle that you see in use when you go out to the garden and put an end on your hose that gives you a longer stream of water, than without it.
Secondly the length of the horn and the flair rate are akin to the guy blowing into the "Ricolla" Swiss horn. Small mouth piece going in and a very low frequency sound coming out the other end.
Does that help?
Andrew

I like the sail panel idea.

How much that center console with all the components gonna weigh? Looks beefy. I dont know much about acoustics, so the 3/4" ply might be necessary

RJ,
with the driver, and the crossover it weighs 22lbs.
to put that in perspective a mid priced 12" driver weighs about 8-10lbs.
The 3/4" is necessary for the stiffness of the enclosure. If it flexes you lose bass response
Andrew

Have you considered putting power motors out of a caravan on the 1/4 pop out windows?

Youre making this thing so custom I figured I would suggest it.

hemitheus - I've been thinking of doing that with my pick-up's rear door windows. I like the idea on the duster pop outs too.

Hemitheus,
power windows is a given, but not on the popouts,
the back seat passengers :angry7: can deal with those themselves.
Besides along with the possibility of using the mechanism from a Crossfire for a rear spoiler application, and the Air grabber thingy,Oh....yeah and the afterburners, lack of custom items is not something Ill ever be accused of.:toothy10::glasses9:

I wanna build a 3 foot bong now... Also subbed because of the awesomeness that is this Duster.

To all of those who are true fans and are following here.
I need your help getting this story out to more than just the guys here.
PLEASE go to a site called Digg.com and give me a 'digg' and a comment.
This site is a clearing house for blogs and stories. I have linked this site and this thread to it. The more diggs I get the higher it goes on the list and the more people it will send to FABO and my story.
The link is:

Thanks Guys
Andrew

By the way anything to increase the traffic to FABO couldn't hurt our sponsors either.
In the mean time here is a progress report. I have started the composite work again and here are the first results.
Everything still needs to be sanded down for a 'gloss' coat and a final coat of automotive clear, the handles still need a second layer of carbon. I think however the scheme is starting to take shape.
the first couple of pics are of the bagging process and the rest are of the parts on the door.

Looks good, Are you planning an all carbon interior? And are you going to put something soft on the armrest and such? because just a clearcoat would get sticky and not be any fun. are you leaving the speaker exposed? I was just wondering because I personally don't like exposed speakers. But I'm not sure about the whole vision for your build.

BJK,
basically the answer is yes. The arm rests still have to be machined for the window switches then finished. Yes they will be clear coated but all of the clear coating will be satin automotive clear. I got the rear console done last night and will start on the sail panels today. I am also remaking the rear side panels to keep with the simpler theme and they will have the same plain raised panels the door panels do.
Thanks again for the feedback.
EVERYONE PLEASE go to Digg.com and vote for my story.

I got the sail panels to the same point, and put the back seats back in for a photo-op. I did get the new driver for the console, it sounds as expected, next on that front I have to build a proper low-pass filter, there is a temp one in place.

Looking great man!! You have some real skill and I always check this thread whenever there is an update, you give me some motivation to get mine done!

I like the rear seats. What are they out of ?

The seats are out of a Cadillac CTS and they required alot of modification to get them in place.

What'd you do to get them in there? I kinda wanna do it in the future for mine cuz that looks just so sharp and I don't like how my front seats wont match that back one unless I reupholster them

Dartt,
go to page 11, post 220 and the pics and description are there.
Essentially I took the better part of 5" of height out of the base and eliminated all of the power options and the glides. There is even a before and after pic.

Thanks Andrew:cheers: Keep up the good work!8)

here are the latest parts to arrive, a 45RFE and torque converter.

I made a mock-up profile out of ply and here it is in the car. This is how high it needs to sit, if the bottom of the pan is level with the frame rails.
