Bottom End Shocker Build

Then widening the port window like I did above and way back where the bolt hole protrudes into the port are the big keys from what I learn from @pittsburghracer who can shed more light on where to go and what to do.

At the 280 cfm ProMaxx reports, you can still do quite well.

I witnessed to sbm shockers on the bench and they do flow as advertised…getting them to 300 might take some work…maybe try some different valve angles

many Edelbrock, Edelbrock copies can hit 300 plus without opening the port window past what you can get by tubing them is very doable. (2.08 valve) The gains I made by relocating the pushrod over were at the most 15 cfm (330 area). So unless I see so mysterious gains at the track with the opened up port window I would never go with anything over a .350 offset. Hopefully I will find out if the delays, cost, and added work were worth the effort. I would have been racing weeks ago.

I’m going to take them to the porter when they get here and see what he thinks he can do with them…he might even tell me to leave them alone…I’m dreaming of around 550hp at a low rpm on this build

Okay….the only set of small block Shockers in stock at Promaxx has shipped to Canada…once they get here I will post some pictures and start figuring out what steps to take to get them flowing over 300cfm at 600 lift….might see if we can stuff a bigger valve in them for starters and see where we go from there…

I think they already have a 2.08 intake valve, you are going to go bigger?

Combustion Chamber ……63-65cc
Weight …………………………55.00 lbs.
Intake Runner ……………. 185cc
Exhaust Runner …………..80cc
Intake Valve Size …………2.08”
Exhaust Valve Size …….. 1.60””

I'm not sure what they will show up with for valves or springs or chamber size...I didn't ask... the owner of Brazier Race texted me a set was coming up so I told him to grab them for me...

Well, those numbers are from the Tech Spec tab on the ProMaxx website. I'd hope they come as advertised. Anyway, I'm following along to see how they do.
Shocker 185 Mopar CNC (Sold in Pairs) - PROMAXX Performance Products
A couple of years ago I witnessed a set on the bench and they went the numbers on the flow side of things...FYI another local builder just did a SBM with Shockers that went 580hp on the dyno and i hear it may be going back to try get it up to 600hp

Heads showed up ….65cc 208/160 valves… bigger problem is no Air Gap intakes in stock… estimated time October 2022….

If anyone has a new air gap let me know….

The Weiand is pretty good. Having one myself, I wasn’t happy with the core shift and the bolt hole clearance was crappy. I did some grinding. I wouldn’t buy another one.

Depending on cam and etc….. The Victor is real good.
However, allow me to quote….

So keep in mind that this is not going to be some drag strip bracket engine that needs a 4500 stall and 4:10 gears to pull away from the stoplight…. I want the bottom end torque of a big block and peak power at 5500rpm…
So the Victor will have a seat.

It wasn’t a lot of grinding but to get the bolts to sit flat on the intake AND in some spots, get in and threaded straight… NOT AMUSED. It is what it is and it was what it was. It does perform well.

Woof. Grinding for the bolts like that irks me, I had to do that on my RPM air gap. It is what it is.

I started looking as well for the Weiand Air Strike but they seem to be out of stock also…really want to do the Air Gap as I’m convinced on a lower RPM stroker build they are the way to go…
I have a victory on one of my 340s…it’s perfect for buzzing around at 7000rpm…which is way higher than I want to spin this stroker
I’m still surprised the heads showed up so quickly

Yea man! When ProMaxx has them, they get it done.

I got the Maxx 171. It took a couple weeks to build them but Boom they were here right after the shipped notification.
Great customer service. The customer service people are right there at the shop. I called to check on the progress and the guy says" let me go talk to the guys in the shop." After a little wait on the phone he says that the guy says they will be done Bla Bla bla and sure as hell they were. I mean these heads had my name on them.
The web site says the 171 will ship in February but that is wrong. He said they have a bunch of blanks in stock and not sure why the web site says that about February.
They look phenomenal with a little fresh grease hanging from the valve guides.

Just to be clear here, that weight is for the pair.

Just use a Victor 340 intake! My 360 ran much better with the victor than the airgap. I actually traded a member here for my victor 340 and love it!
I have a Victor and still won't use it...this is a build I want to see make peak HP at 5500rpm
