Alright, I'm not sure why it's not working, but the self tapping studs arent tapping, they're just eating the channels that they're supposed to sit in. I have two scoops for my 70 Dart hood and was missing 8 studs between the two scoops. I got a bag of extra studs and need to toss them in, but hit a hiccup. Can anyone recommend a way to get the studs to thread into the underside of the scoops? I got a couple nuts on the fine threaded portion and push down as hard as I can while threading them in, but they won't thread very deep at all.

Would a Helicoil work?
It would be a very coarse threaded helicoil (I got a pack like these 1970 Dart Swinger 340 Hood Scoop Mounting Stud Kit New MoPar)
I'd prefer to not go buy a helicoil for it, but I do suppose that would be a good option if I cant figure something else out

Well, ****...I'm already committed trying to go with the studs that have the lip lol I really do appreciate the recommendation, but getting these things to work since I've already bought them would be optimal.

I did that with my friend's spoiler on his Mustang. Worked like a charm and solid. If you can get those studs to work then all the better. Good luck.

Lol. I know what a Helicoil looks like. I was trying to understand what the OP problem was. Seems as if they should thread right in.
Are the studs too wide to fit the hole? What if you were to open the hole a little with a drill bit. These studs can't be too tight as they will crack the scoup.
I was just looking in the garage for some bits that will be just a smidge smaller than the studs, so that there's less plastic to bite away for the threads. Trying to transfer photos, but they won't send...gyah. Going to try opening the hole some and will stay optimistic... ...
factory studs are #10 and 1 1/8 long total. original scoops are fiberglass. I have some that the stud fell out, so I will either put fiberglass back in the hole and drill a pilot hole to start them. I'm a trimmer from way back and that always seemed to work. Just try it on one hole of course to see if it will work. Try a drill bit that is the next size up from the size it is now. You may need to try stepping it up until it works. I went to the next size which is 1/4-20 and use knurled nutserts....some people call them rivnuts, or blind rivets.....they worked great
Success! Found a flat tipped bit that was the perfect diameter to let me thread those guys in. Now I wait for the sun to come out and I can put these things on Thanks, guys!!
EDIT: I just wanted to toss it up on here that I have 8 extra studs, so if someone one day does a search for studs and doesn't want to pay the big cost, shoot me a pm! I'm sure we can figure something out.
