Hey all.

I am doing a 4-Speed swap on my 69 dart and have a built 904 transmission that I will be selling. Is anyone in the market for one and what do you all think it's worth?

Thanks!

Custom 904 Tranny
No bushings (all roller bearing)
Billet steel Hi-drum billet aluminum forward drum
TCI full manual rev valve body
TCS 8 inch Hi stall converter
Hurst shifter

Super nice Dart. Who built the trans?

Nice car. How much you have in the transmission is what you should ask. Add to the price if you have some room for profit. I already deleted a half assed offer in a members post (which we don't allow) Most "what's it worth" threads get deleted because of offers to buy. Just a FYI.

Realistically used stuff sells for 60% of what it cost new if it's good shape. Not for what you have into it +.

it looks like most builders list similar spec competition units in the 3K range so i'd use that as a starting point.

that thing seems like it's le boeuf which kinda takes most of the unwashed masses out of the market, leaving a more serious crowd-- which could be a good thing, or a bad thing. generally somebody spending that kinda dough for a trans is having it built specifically for their application, especially the torque converter so they may not see value in coughing up a bunch of dough for something that they're going to have to modify for their needs.

if you have a detailed build sheet that contains specs and the shop that did the work is a known entity that can certainly move the needle. but used racy stuff is usually 50~60% off list.

Three years ago I sold my 727 for $1000. Billet drum, TCS pump gear, rear roller support, trans brake ready, basic attention to detail build. Valve body was not included. I feel the only reason I got that much was it was someone I knew and he knows how I roll. Honestly I wish I’d a kept it and one of the converters

Selling a transmission assembled with high dollar parts to someone you don't know is going to be tough. How would a potential buyer know what he or she is getting? Because of that, you'll likely get pennies on the dollar unfortunately unless you decide to take it apart and sell it unassembled or part by part.

Pennies on the dollar= my point exactly. Put 40k in a car and then comes along this guy offering "pennies on the dollar" and telling you your car isn't worth anything. All labor should be free and high dollar parts should be almost free

sheet, you'd prolly get the same coin selling off the tasty bits as rolling the whole unit with the only difference being your labor to blow it apart, dealing with yahoos and shipping and then being left with the carcass that you'll stub your toe on for a year and half before getting pissed enough to scrap it.

(note: immediately after scrapping it somebody will want/need the case and pay good money)

I actually wasn't sure what to ask and then I asked my son who is a red seal mechanic and he said $4,500. Then I talked to the builder, Bill @ TCS and he said about $4,000. I am selling it with the coolant lines and the hurst ratchet shifter as well. And Flywheel. I'm asking $4,200 for all of it.

Better off keeping it. Folks are low balling cheap scape turds these days especially on FB Marketplace
They can lowball all they want. I'll find the right guy. Already have many messages at full price on MP. They know what this thing is. It's a one of a kind build. I'm asking $4,200.

I've been told mine is worth $4,000, especially with the hurst shifter, linkage, flywheel and trans cooling lines.

Well that's not true at all. You have to wait for the right guy. I bought my car for way less than it's worth and could sell it now for $50K. Same with the trans. A serious racing guy will know. I have more info on the tranny now and actually the guy at TCS that built it contacted me through FB. He gave me all the stats and said its a 1 of a kind build. There's about $5,000 into it.
