buyer/seller integrity question

Sorry, but I call BS on his part. Irresponsible entitled clown buys a 60 year old car without coming to look at it? Sure there are people that do that, BUT be prepared to be disappointed. The crybaby could've had an inspection done.
Call her bluff(gotta be a ***** to pull this move)
**edit** I should add you are a man of few words on here Robert, but I believe 1000% you are a man of your word.
$13k to $5500??? Lmao

I see exactly who is being a dick. Been a member for a month. Doesn't even have the decency to negotiate with you in a private msg? Lowballs you directly in a public forum shows zero class. I'll bet you that for what he paid for it other members would gladly buy it. I'm so tempted to page/call him out here but I know you wouldn't want that Robert.

We have members on this forum from all over the country and globe, for that matter. If I was interested in a car or parts listed here, it wouldn’t be too hard to put out a request to have someone take a look at it for you, even if you had to pay them gas money. I helped a guy in California a few years back buy a really sweet 70 Duster drag car that was for sale 30 miles from me and I live in Michigan. He just wanted eyes on it and I was more than happy to help him out. I offered to look at a 68-9 Barracuda for a guy on here too that was about 60 miles from me and would have but he ended up buying a different car. The point I’m trying to make is if you’re not willing to look at something in person or ask for someone closer to do it “just in case”, don’t complain after you buy something sight unseen. I agree you owe him nothing. The burden lies on his lack of willingness to check it out better.

I looked at your sale pictures, the body is definitely not "junk". If he bought it based on those pictures alone and didn't ask for any pictures of anything else then anything he found not in those pictures is on him. Clearly he's not buying a brand new car.

There's absolutely no way I'd refund any money. If he wants out of the sale, tell him to bring the car back and you'll refund his money. That's the only deal I'd make, anything beyond that is the buyer trying to scam you.

I love the hunt to buy classic cars, the thrill of the chase. It used to be fun. I love working on them, taking a POS and making it s useful auto again. Bringing it back from the DEAD. But, I hate the selling of any on them, but no doubt I could never afford to just keep them.

Yesa, I hate the sell deal. If I am selling to a knowledge hobbiest, never an issue. But so many people have no experience with these old cars, have NO clue, so many expect to buy a car for pennies on the dollar as far as what its fair market value is, they expect everything to work perfect even after you tell them it is not perfect, it is what 50-60 years old! it is still a project that needs work to be PERFECT. And how many of these types never want to call and have a conversation, all they want to do is text!! They want me to write them a book!

I would tell your buyer to send YOU a check, he got more than his money's worth!!

So he made you an offer that was lower than your asking price?

I would say that he was the one that set the value of the car and both parties agreed.

Do you think if He was offered 20k for the car by his neighbor, he would contact you and pay you some money back to you because he got more than he paid for it?

I read your add and the guy was very eager to make the deal and he set the price that you agreed to.

Its his car now.

understand straight from the jump that you owe him zero-point-zero. it's a used car and he didn't do, ask or want a further inspection. your ad was perfectly transparent. the due diligence is on him.

if bothers you and he wants to press it, tell him to bring it on back to you in the condition it left and you'll gladly refund his purchase. that's as far as i would go. if even that.

Here's what I think happened, the daughter didn't like the 50 year old car after buying it , not like a 2000 Toyota. No AC , power steering or brakes so she cried to daddy . BLA BLA BLA. DON'T SWEAT IT !

Rule #1 when dealing with a sale. When the words lawyer, court and sue come out of the their mouth, my mouth goes shut.
Cut off all contact at this point. If he does sue, he's going to have to do it in the county you live in. It'll get in front of a judge who'll see a sale of a 60 year old car and his list of problems and either toss it or side with you.
Most of all, cut off all contact.

It does however not mean to not ask questions about what others have dealt with.

Robert has gotten some pretty decent advice in this thread, and it seemed as though He was or is being bullied.

I wonder why idahoboy has said nothing?

You've already taken enough of a loss, you gave him a 10% discount & now he's trying to scam you... He bought it & he can deal with it....

I agree with the folks above who say that you owe him NOTHING. If he makes threats, say "See you in court". Unless he can prove that you lied and/or offered him some kind of a warranty, he doesn't have a leg to stand on. The car was 59 years old, and he bought it sight unseen. No judge would award that idiot any money. Call his bluff if it comes to that.

Check your state's (and the buyers state just for grins) specific laws on used motor vehicle sales.

Some states treat all used vehicle sales via private party as "as is, where is".

Also, any legal action by the buyer opens them up to paying sales tax on the full purchase price.

Did they do that?

Wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to get something for damn near nothing so he can resell locally for a profit. I wonder if "he" is a dealer....

I told him it runs/drives good. I posted 13K for it & he gave me 9700 & wants 5500 back.
Nope. If you listed it for 13K and he paid $9700 for it he doesn't get $5500 back.
