Can I get a /6 in the 7's?

160 hp is certainly doable. However I want to see you get a Full fendered "A" body door slammer, below 1,300 lbs car weight, using 100% regular production body, engine, driveline and suspension parts. Not saying you can't do it, but!

I know it seems like a stretch, BUT I've gone waaaay out of the box here. Making the weight really isn't that difficult using the approach I've taken with this. If I really wanted to get nutty, there is probably another 25 or so pounds worth of trimmings that could come off with no ill effects. Of course, and aluminum block would really make a dent in this thing. That may be phase two.

The one I'm building would pass basic tech at any track for a 12 second street car. My goal is to squeeze an 11.99 out of it. As for the head gasket thing, I don't think that would be an issue for a N/A combination.
 
I pulled my 225 in favor of a 340 years ago. If I could do it all over again I'd have left it alone and make an adapter to mount a buick 3.8 liter supercharger to my slanty.

Like I said, the car's existence is the result of the countless hours of R and D by Tom Wolfe, and Ryan Peterson's similar car.... they blazed the trail of the high-horsepower, high boost slant six motor... it was in NO WAY, MY idea... I just built a clone of their successful motors... I WISH I were that smart!!!! :banghead:
 
Hey Bill, If you had gone to the slant six race at Clay City, Ky. you could have seen/heard that car in person. It is a work of art. See what you missed.

The Lancer was homebuilt in '94-'95. 2230 lbs without driver. Started out with a powerglide, then 350 turbo and now a Jerico 5-speed. AFT adjustable clutch. Homemade intake with Hilborn injection. Dry sump oiling and crank trigger ignition. Has gone 10.50 @ 126 with 30% nitro to prove a point. Runs 10.90 - 11.05 with the wrong clutch disc,(my fault, I ordered the wrong disc.) Has and should run 10.70"s anywhere on straight alky and the right disc. We should be at the Centerville MoPar race in 2015. Bill bring out your car and let's race heads up. I know it's not fair you having a turbo and we don't, but we will try to make it a race.
 
I went and seen you guys run at Mo-Kan this spring. I believe 11.03 was the fastest run I seen. Very cool! Faster than most v8s there!
 
This decision is killing me, stay with the six and just enjoy the uniqueness of the six, even if it's slow, or go with the same old blah blah blah V8. If I do a build like this: intake, 4 bbl, milled/ported head, aggressive cam, header, 3500ish stall, 904 & transbrake, 4:11 gear, cal-trac set up, and a 150 shot of nitrous, what can I expect in the 1/8th? I should be at 2850 lbs.

What's not fair is that I have zero experience with this untried combination, and you're on alcohol and I'm not, plus your car is a good 550 pounds lighter than mine and you have LOTS of experience running it.

But, that turbo should make up for all that and more, unless I am a complete idiot, which I may well be! :eek:ops:

Maybe by then, I will have a few trips down the strip and have at least, SOME IDEA of what I am doing... fat chance... LOL! But, I have been outrun before, and I survived it. :violent1:

With the nitrous you should be able to get in the 7's in the 1/8.
I would recommend a Fogger system. It is easier to get the cyl to cyl distribution right, but is more expensive. I have both a plate system, and a fogger system, and jetted at the same "advertised" HP rating, the fogger is quicker.

PS: My 66 Cuda is a full street legal type car minus exhaust. 170 cubes and weighs 3250 on the starting line. It will run low 8's in the 1/8 on 150 shot.

Thanks Charlie! This is exactly what I was looking for! A couple a years ago, there was a slant running in a footbrake class I was in. While I was in the staging lanes, about every racer was taking a look at the car and I was as well. It really peaked my interest in the /6. I'm going to go with the fogger set up as you recommended and committing to the /6 build. Will the stock crank/rods hold up with this combo, or should I upgrade these components?
