Chrysler brings back the Dodge Dart

-
I would love it if they just started over on this thing. But I guess its cheaper to rebadge an Alfa than to do good by the Dart heritage.

ie Custom Sedan, Swinger, GTS, GT Custom Coupe, and the base model.

I've been biting my tongue on this since the new Dart was announced. I was raised on mopars and have always had my core allegiance with them. It seems to me that Chrysler/Fiat in its ultimate wisdom do not take the mopar muscle car community seriously.

I vowed year ago, I'd never own a new style 4-door Coronet ( 4-door chargers are really coronets. Real Chargers only have 2 doors), and I still dont own one.

The Muscle car community had to drag the 2-door Challenger out of Chrysler after they finally got from under Daimler's thumb. You'd have thunk they might have learned something from it.

So, WHY arent they offering the Dart in a 2-door model. Build something for the enthusiasts who drive these car's and has kept their business going over the long term. They act like the challenger is a valid competitor for a mustang, which at the weight and cost of it, It clearly is not. A 2-door dart would compete directly with the pony-car class. But not a 4-door.

I know I am opinionated, but I also know what I want. I will be in the market for a new car within the next 12 months. Last time in 2000, I ended up getting the wife a new Ford Mustang, because there was nothing comparable from Chrysler in 2 doors/manual trans. If I am going to buy a new performance car, you can bet damn well it wont have 4 doors in any way shape or form. I'd like a 'New Dart' But only with a V8, Manual Transmission and 2-doors.

If they screw over the Dart Namesake like they did for the Charger, I will continue to be PO'd over it for the forseeable future.

It is, what it is. The main thing the Dart has to do, is make Fiat a return on its money.
A two door would mean more investment & they haven't even sold car one yet.
The 4-door Dart will appeal to alot larger market than a 2-door would.
I was glad to see a name brought back from the past, it reminds me of dependabilty & economical car to drive.
Which in this day & age is what 99.9% look for in that type of car.
I'm sure there were more early 4-doors sold than 2-doors back in the day.
One thing about it, manufactures are not going to turn back the clocks & make cars for the .1% of us out there.
I did hear a rumor of the Cuda being brought back. It would have a different & lighter chassis than the Challenger. I would think this would be the car that would take on the mustang & camero.

I agree, they should have a 2-door Dart, but in addition to the 4-doors.

The 2013 Ford Escort... I mean Dodge Dart

:sleepy2:That's an awesome demonstration showing how it's capable of navigating turns and straightaways slowly. :sleepy2:

I think it looks like, what the Neon would have ended up looking like, if it had stayed in production.

Good looking, small, 4 door.

Why are some people so insecure that they won't drive anything with four doors, or don't consider it a "real performance car" unless it has two doors? Really guys? Wake up and smell the roses, the world has changed. People can't afford to have two cars anymore, they need to have a single car that can do everything. Something that can haul the family around, have enough space to store anything you would want to carry, be comfortable and economical to drive every day, and still be fun to drive. That's exactly what the Charger and the Dart are. The Challenger is for the guys that *can* afford to drive two cars. Great for you, but the rest of us can't. And besides, the Dart originally wasn't a cool car when it came out in it's compact form in '63. You didn't drive one becuase you wanted a performance monster, you drove on because it was good on gas and somewhat fun to drive. Fact is, most Darts were four-door six cylinder cars. You didn't buy a Dart to be cool in, you bought one because it's what you could afford, and it was good value for money. That's exactly what the new Dart is. Sorry it's not a two door Hemi powered monster, and I'm sorry it's not 1967 anymore, but some of us are younger guys who want a new car, but can't afford an SRT8 Challenger. We want, no, we NEED something that gets 35mpg on the highway, is fun to drive, and practical enough for every day use.

And as far as Chrysler not taking the Mopar guys seriously, you have no idea do you? Ralph Giles is your best friend. The man designed and headed the Challenger program near the end of the Diamler days, kept it going during the Cerberus years, and even managed to keep the model around during the bailouts, all while he was head of the Dodge brand. He's since been moved to the SRT8 brand, and created the SRT8 Charger, Challenger, and 300. Oh, and the SRT Jeep. The SRT cars are designed specifically for guys like us. The die hard Mopar speed freaks.

Be glad that Chrysler is proud of, and respects it's heritage. How many classic names does Ford have to bring back? The Mustang. GM? The Camaro. Chrysler not only recognizes and appreciates it's customer base, they gave us cars like the Charger and 300, not to mention the SRT cars. How many big, V8 powered, rear drive sedans does Ford have right now? How about GM, outside of the Cadillacs. One?

Be glad that the names and the heritage live on, and be proud to drive a vehicle built by a company that cares more about what its customers want, need, and think, than any other auto manufacturer.

Ok, I'm done ranting, I promise :D

ugly out of place looking hood and now its a gts tribute? lmao...

That has always been one of the target groups along with the first car buyers and other lower level entry groups. Its not hidious as a car goes ,yes I would have liked to see a more muscle look. But I own a 06 charger 4 DOOR and its the absolute best riding, driving car i have ever EVER been in,and I've been in a few.So i say give it a chance to stand on its own and if its junk so be it if not all the better.should have just called it a neon tho,it would have benn alot less whinning if they had.

16 pages and still going strong... To me this argument is silly anymore.. I realize I have posted in this thread several times, but this will be the last time.. It seems to me after reading all this there are two distinct sides.. those that think its crap and those that dont... those that still want it to be the 60's and those that realize it cant be anymore... I love my Dart, but I still cant understand those here making the Dart out to be the best thing Ma Mopar ever put together... they're own sales pitch in 69, was 'its the cheapest model in the Dodge line'.. now theres a ringing endorsement... If you dont believe me, go search for the 69 Dart sales book and have a read.. it was cheap 'transportation'.. it was not an iconic muscle car.. but hey.. what do I know.. lol... Heres the way I see it,... those who like the new Dart, think its going to be an affordable, reliable, fuel efficiant way to get the family from point a to point b... go get one.. those who want it to be the 60's car again.. dont... its that simple.. its no differant than if you dont like whats on tv, change the channel.. neither side appears to be budging... we're all just beating a dead horse here... rant over

x2 SpeedracerX. I seem to recall being laughed at for owning a Dart or Duster instead of a "real" Mopar. And this by "real" Mopar guys.

last i checked this was a discussion board. without discussion there is no use for the board.

and really the only reason this thread popped back up was because chrysler communications posted something about the dart yesterday. someone posted it in its own thread and a mod combined it with this thread..
