Anyone here convert a Thermoquad to electric choke? Are there kits out there? I searched around a bit, no definitive answer yet.

Mike's Carburetor Parts produces a conversion kit for the Thermo-Quad and other carburetors:

Thermo-Quad Electric Choke Conversion Kit

This kit replaces the factory divorced choke and relies on the 1973 and later factory Chrysler Choke Electric Control for its connection and control. It does not mount to the carburetor itself like those on the 9800 series Super-Quads or the Ford Thermo-Quads.

I have not used one myself, but it looks like a straightforward method to convert from the factory Chrysler choke rather than trying to adapt the 9800 series choke, Ford electric choke, or other similar choke.

The 9800 series aftermarket Superquads all had electric chokes as well. Mike's USED to have a supply of those, but now all he offers is that electric divorced conversion, which works just as well.

The baseplates on the electric chokes are different, so you can't convert a regulat TQ to that type of choke. you have to use one like above.

Yup. I had forgotten about that. ........and I'm workin on a 9800 series right now so you'd think I'd remember, but heck no! lol

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention - I'm about to convert from a 2bbl to the TQ with a Weiand 8007 intake. There is no "cup" cast into the manifold, so I'm concerned about mounting the Mike's kit.

Should be easy enough to make a simple bracket that attaches to one of the carb mounting bolts that the choke unit can be attached to. Mock one up in cardboard, and once you're satisfied use it as a template to make the final version out of metal.

Not sure what the point is of the Mike's kit if the stock well is on the intake. Are the stock choke part NA now?

I ran into a similar problem as the OP, wanted to run a choke on my TQ but with an MP dual plane intake with no choke well. So I built this:

Basically just replicated the mount holes from the 9800 base that the Mopar TQ is missing. It worked well enough, but would have been nice if it was a little stiffer.

Trick is finding the parts to bolt to it. The choke cover was a stroke of luck for me, no idea where you might find one now.

I have been learning Fusion360 recently and I bet it wouldn't be hard to do one up and get SendCutSend to cut and bent up a thicker one.

I am running a Hughes RPM and an Edelbrock carb now, so the parts are all just on the shelf.
