Cost for labor on stroker build?

I'm thinking that this article is about your 318 build. You have the knowledge and experience.

Good collection of paperwork. 400 horsepower 318 with bolt ons, what bolt ons? Probably all high dollar stuff
Question is, Dan what do you consider High Dollar Stuff
Any part that cost more than a $1.99 Spark Plug?

What the heck did I just spend 10 minutes reading? Sounds like the non A body owning expert was day dreaming through his fingers cus his mouth was filled with……..

That’s a good question. He should go look up a set of NGK (4216) R0045q-10 plugs….. He would **** him self when he saw the invoice for a set of custom valves from Ferrea we just got, let’s just say a single valve is well over 100 bucks…

No sir, I believe that a set of cylinder heads for a sbm is around $2500 a set, is that pretty close? I can't afford most aftermarket heads I'm not saying that they aren't worth it

I have a 427 sbc in a G body, the shortblock was built Shafiroff Racing engines, 10/1 comp, AFR 220 heads, Hrc and I can guarantee you it doesn't make 650 hp. 575 maybe.
I also have a 512 RB w/Indy EZ, MW port heads 10.5/1 SRC, Indy MW intake for Dommie and it might make 650-675.
That's why I'm skeptical...
What's this 650 hp sbc in?
What's it run at the track? Should be 9's.

This made some interesting reading at 3am in the morning. Chevy this, Chevy that. I got a buddy at Keystone that had won a lot of races traveling all over the eastern coast 5-6 years ago. He had a well built small block Chevy in his strip only 66 Chevy II. I was running 6.0’s and he on a good day was running 6.40’s. He had more trouble than you could imagine trying several area builders. He got pissed off and bought an LS and changed the cam and a few other mods and was running 6.60’s. He wasn’t happy so he bought one of those crankshaft blowers for 1000’s of dollar. Ran like crap so he asked several guys what he needed. They suggested a 1700.00 blow through carb so he bought it eventually getting some 5.80 passes but zero wins. So inconsistent he detuned it to run 6.30’s but it still isn’t consistent. So now everything small block is for sale and he’s looking for a big block Chevy. This guy went from winning crazy amounts of races to not being able to keep it together to go to races. Again he isn’t here but at home sitting. Don’t tell me Chevy this and Chevy that because I’m at the track with these guys and it’s a real circus to watch.

I see you have quoted, dan the man. I have put him on ignore until he gets a car. Does he have one yet...??

I have discovered the ignore feature is a great thing! Not interested in a guy who doesn't own a car or build engines, giving out advice on a car forum. Dan the man with no car

$700 for hot tank, bore, hone, line hone, square deck, cam bearings, and freeze plugs...
$500 to assemble customer provided Scat balanced I-beam stroker kit... (no need to notch with I- beams...)
$1600 (summit) for Scat kit...
$700 black friday speedmaster heads..
Under $100 for speedmaster head stud kit..
Under $150 for speedmaster intake manifold...
Under $200 for 273 adjustable rockers and push rods...
$99 to you have Oregon cam grinders regrind a custom solid lifter cam... ( They also sold me in solid lifters. Can't remember for the price...) $220?????....
I bought a reconditioned street demon carburetor from holley. And had to get put on their list for when a 750 came in and it took about 2 weeks, $225 to the door...
1008 head gaskets, Double roller timing chain, regular meling oil pump, And cheap summit headers...
About 5k carb to headers ....
Now, if you get your head too full of this forum and the guru's start crawling around in your brain, you are going to have trick flow heads, solid steel crank.
$3000 carburetor $1500 headers, all of which you can't live without LOL...
Take this with a grain of salt as I have the slowest stroker on the internet LOL...

if the motor is in good condition why not throw a cam at it and maybe do some heads or work a little love on the stock units?

if you don't have a converter and gears, that would be another area to upgrade. and while i wouldn't say that stuff is cheap, it's an alternative to dropping massive coin.

you could probably do all that for about 1/2 of what a stroker would run (if you're swinging the wrenches yourself)
Agreed. Also, if you spend some money now on good flowing heads, you won't need to upgrade them for most future mods.

I have a machine shop that I usually use and he tells me if I pay cash and I don't need a receipt that it's a substantially different number and I said show me and he did and I ended up getting it for $900 cheaper....hmmmmmm
