Transmission issue sounds valve body related. Maybe it won't have to come out.
Found a pic of my first gen fluid type CAT damper and its depth compared to a stocker and a "Pro-Race" with removeable weight. Later fluid type dampers had a recessed pulley face for better fit.About the cheapest thing to replace, good 'bad' news! Fluidamper may throw the pulley alignment off, just an FYI.
